We reported earlier that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were keeping a low profile, as the Queen and other working members of the Royal Family took front and centre on Day One of the Jubilee.

However, a few images have emerged of the pair - who left the family in an official capacity in 2020 - watching the Trooping the Colour ceremony from the Major General's office above Horse Guards Parade.

Pictured with Prince Harry and Meghan were Savannah Phillips, the daughter of Princess Anne's son Peter Phillips; Mia Tindall, the daughter of Princess Anne's daughter Zara and her husband, former England rugby player Mike Tindall; and Lena Tindall, Mia's younger sister.

The group looked happy and relaxed - with the girls getting a playful "shush!" from the prince.

  2. 12 arrests after failed Mall occupation - policepublished at 17:55 British Summer Time 2 June 2022

We reported earlier how several individuals attempted to interrupt the procession of troops down the Mall this morning ahead of the Trooping of the Colour.

The Met Police has now confirmed 12 people were arrested for what it said was obstruction of the highway.

Pro-vegan climate and animal rights campaign group Animal Rebellion has said 25 of its supporters were involved in the disruption.

The group said the action was responding to what it claimed was "the Crown's inaction on the climate emergency and their continued support for meat, fishing, and dairy, a leading contributor to climate breakdown".

It's been a busy start to the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, filled to the brim with union jacks, bustling crowds, royal carriages and a flypast.

The 96-year-old monarch also made two appearances on the Buckingham Palace balcony - including with senior royals, greeting thousands of people who gathered in London.

  4. What's still to come, and when?published at 17:11 British Summer Time 2 June 2022

It may have been a busy first day of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, but celebrations continue across the long weekend.

On Friday, a special service of thanksgiving will be held for the Queen at St Paul's Cathedral.

Saturday is reserved for the Platinum concert, which will kick off at around 19:30 BST and includes performances from musical royalty such as Queen and Diana Ross.

Meanwhile on Sunday, the Big Jubilee Lunch will see an estimated 10 million Britons take part in street parties, and there's the London pageant.

So far the sun has been shining down on the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in the capital - but forecasters are warning there could be rain to come.

Possible thunderstorms are predicted when the likes of Craig David and Alicia Keys perform at the BBC's Platinum Party at the Palace on Saturday.

The Met Office even says it is considering issuing a weather warning as it predicts heavy, possibly thundery, showers for parts of England and London during the Jubilee concert.

The forecaster is expected to review the situation tomorrow morning.

A total of 22,000 spectators are expected to attend the event outside Buckingham Palace, which will be broadcast live on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and BBC Radio 2.

Other stars due to appear in the show include Sir David Attenborough, Emma Raducanu, David Beckham and Stephen Fry, as well as a specially recorded performance by Sir Elton John.

Diana Ross is also scheduled to close the two-and-a-half hour show with her first UK live performance in 15 years.

  6. How people have been marking the Jubilee outside of Londonpublished at 16:44 British Summer Time 2 June 2022

Away from the pomp and ceremony on The Mall and Horse Guards Parade, people have been gathering to celebrate the Jubilee in streets and parks around the UK.

Here's a few snaps to give you a flavour of what's going on.

  7. Harry and Meghan are keeping a low profile todaypublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 2 June 2022

    Sean Coughlan

Prince Harry and Meghan seem to be carefully avoiding any accusations of stealing the limelight - despite being back in London to celebrate the prince's grandmother.

They watched the Trooping the Colour ceremony from windows above Horse Guards Parade, but mostly stayed out of sight.

Since they weren’t part of the Buckingham Palace balcony scene or in the carriage procession, they’ve largely remained under the radar and away from centre stage.

This image of them in a car, snapped by an onlooker, gives just a fleeting glimpse.

That’s probably what Buckingham Palace most wanted. Because the couple attract so much public interest, both positive and negative, that it could drown out the Jubilee events.

This might be about building bridges rather than making headlines. They would have been made aware of the damage of any attention-grabbing comments or appearances.

But they are expected to be at St Paul’s on Friday and there is speculation about private meetings with the Queen over the weekend.

It’s their daughter Lilibet’s first birthday on Saturday, so it could all align for a family gathering.

  9. Support for Queen greater than backing for monarchy as a wholepublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 2 June 2022

    Sean Coughlan
    BBC News, royal correspondent

Recent opinion polls show that the Queen’s personal popularity seems to extend beyond support for the monarchy at large.

This week YouGov found 62% were in favour of the monarchy, with 22% wanting an elected head of state, and 16% saying they did not know.

Another survey this week, carried out by Ipsos-Mori, showed 68% in favour of the monarchy and 22% preferred a republic, with 10% saying they didn’t know.

But below the headline figures there are some big differences.

According to YouGov’s research, young people, aged 18 to 24, are much more evenly split on whether to support the monarchy.

And people in Scotland and London are also more divided about wanting a monarchy.

Prince Andrew didn't make an appearance at today's Trooping the Colour ceremony - but he was never due to appear in an official capacity as he is no longer a "working royal".

He quit royal duties amid the fallout over his friendship with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and a US civil lawsuit that saw him pay millions to settle a sexual assault case.

The details of the settlement have never been made public and the prince has always denied the allegations.

He was, however, due to attend a service of thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral in London, on Friday.

We understand he has seen the Queen in the last few days but has been undertaking regular testing and has not seen her since he tested positive.

Columbia Road in London's Tower Hamlets is celebrating with a corgi parade.

The Queen has owned more than 30 of the short-legged pets during her reign.

Poor old Rufus the corgi has a broken paw but his owner was determined that would not stop him taking part.

Instead a carriage has been made for him so he can join in the procession.

One of the pooches will be crowned the winner later today and have its own coronation.

Looking ahead for a moment, beacon lighting ceremonies are due to take place later as darkness falls.

In Northumberland, preparations are under way for a spectacular event along Hadrian’s Wall and Cawfield Quarry.

A main beacon will be lit by three Roman style archers firing flaming arrows into a giant floating bonfire, just before the sun sets at 21:45 BST.

As well as the Jubilee, it will also mark 1,900 years since Hadrian’s Wall was built by the Romans as the northern frontier of their empire.

    Simon in Tring

While plenty of people are out celebrating with street parties and picnics, many are trying their best to avoid the jubilations.

Simon, from Tring in Hertfordshire, called BBC Radio 5 Live to say he plans to draw his curtains to block out the street party on his road so he can catch up on the Marvel films.

"I’m not a curmudgeon, but I am an anti-royalist," he says.

"I do not believe the royal family have done us any good, particularly recently.

"My wife is a care worker on £9.50 an hour… the amount of money that’s being dribbled away on the Jubilee, it beggars belief in this situation we’re in at the moment.

"The whole point of this country is that it's a democracy, we’re allowed to have our own opinions and I don’t want to support a woman who’s grown up in a very elitist, rich family by accident of birth.

"She comes across as a good old dear but she shouldn’t be what she is."

Simon says he’s working on both bank holiday days, but is looking forward to the weekend.

"I’m going to enjoy myself. I’ll sit and watch Daredevil with a few cans and I might look back at some football from my dear side Chelsea," he says.

"It's because of the amount of people here today saying congratulations to the Queen.

"It's nice to know you are not on you own in supporting the monarchy and what the Royal Family does for the country.

"To be part of so many thousands of people is amazing."

It looks like the flypast might have been a little too loud for Prince Louis, the youngest child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Pictured on the Buckingham Palace balcony alongside his grandfather Prince Charles, great-grandmother, the Queen, his mother Catherine and older sister Charlotte, Louis covered both his ears and made an array of facial expressions.

A similar scene was captured at the wedding of Louis' parents. Grace Van Cutsem, a bridesmaid in 2011, covered her ears on the same balcony as thousands cheered the sight of Catherine and William sharing their first kiss in public as a married couple.
