Seeing the carriage coming back was “really impressive”, says Ornella, from Argentina.

“A different carriage that was all gold, it was amazing and we could see him (the King) inside waving at the crowds” she says.

Ornella says she and her friends - two of whom had travelled from Argentina for the Coronation - were a bit disappointed when they saw this morning’s procession as they thought it was a bit “simple”.

But she says this afternoon’s return procession has exceeded all expectations.

The bells are incredibly loud as people continue to file out of Westminster Abbey.

They seem pleased to be back on their phones and videoing this moment.

We’ve just spotted Katy Perry leaving. She arrived earlier with British Vogue editor Edward Enninful but seemed to be leaving with someone else - an official in a red gown of some description.

They were chatting away and the US singer smiled as she was directed back the way she came earlier.

Elisabeth and Inger pose in traditional Norwegian dress

Elisabeth and Inger travelled from Norway to watch today's processions in London.

The two are fans of a number of European royal families, and have attended royal events in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and the UK over the years.

I asked them why they decided to travel to the UK, rather than watch the ceremony on the TV at home.

Inger told me the “historic occasion” was unmissable, while Elisabeth said she wanted to “soak up the atmosphere”.

The celebrations are in full swing outside Buckingham Palace.

The throng of royal fans who braved the torrential rain are being rewarded with a wonderful show of music and marching as the Scots Guards stand by for King Charles and Queen Camilla’s arrival.

The spectacle earned a thundering cheer from onlookers waiting in the stands.

    Coach enters Buckingham Palace

The royal couple are back at Buckingham Palace.

It has become customary since the coronation of Edward VII in 1902 for the new monarch to greet the crowds on The Mall from the Buckingham Palace balcony.

The day's public celebrations will draw to a close in just under an hour's time - at 14:30 BST (13:30 GMT).

We're set to witness six-minute fly-past involving members of the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force - and culminating in a display by the Red Arrows.

With the ceremony over and the King and queen on their way to Buckingham Palace, guests have been leaving Westminster Abbey.

Former Conservative prime ministers Boris Johnson, Liz Truss and David Cameron left together, with the rain pouring down. Johnson was arm-in-arm with his wife Carrie and Truss was sheltering under an umbrella being held for her.

Other Coronation guests also raised their brollies or moved quickly to seek cover as they filed out of the abbey. It's a very different picture from first thing this morning when many stopped for selfies and chatted on the lawn.

What's noticeable is just how happy everyone looks. Many are walking arm-in-arm with beaming smiles on their faces.

As the procession heads along The Mall, it passes statues that were unveiled by the late Elizabeth II in honour of both her parents - King Charles’s grandparents.

Elizabeth inaugurated a bronze memorial to her father King George VI early in her reign, in 1955.

Nearby is another bronze which was put up in 2009 to remember the Queen Mother.

I caught sight of the Prince and Princess of Wales outside Westminster Abbey as they met their son, Prince George, following the completion of his page of honour duties.

Together with their two youngest children, Charlotte and Louis, they all entered a black and gold carriage pulled by four horses.

There was also a similar carriage to take the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh back to Buckingham Palace.

They were accompanied by their children - Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor and James Mountbatten-Windsor, Earl of Wessex.

Now the Gold State Carriage heads along The Mall again.

The long, straight road leads to Buckingham Palace, the official London residence of the UK’s monarch since 1837.

During the funeral procession for Queen Elizabeth II last September, a hush descended on the huge crowds as the royals made their way through the streets of Westminster.

Today, we hear cheering and see flag-waving.

The atmosphere is one of celebration.
