  9. It was quite scary - Year 7 pupilpublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

Year 7 pupil Katie Gardiner was collected from the school gates by her worried parents this afternoon.

"It was quite scary as we had never had anything like that before. My old primary school also got shut down," she tells PA news agency.

She says the teachers "did a really good job in keeping us calm and making sure we had fun".

Her mother says that once the school was locked down, teachers allowed students to switch on their mobile phones and message their families to say they were safe - although school rules normally state that phones are to be switched off.

"We are really relieved to see her. We know she has been safe for many, many hours but until you actually see them you don't know," Katie's mum Julia says.

"We couldn't ring but we were allowed to text, which was really reassuring.

"They had quite a lot of fun with sweets and doing a geography quiz and the teachers did a fantastic job keeping everyone calm."

A parent of a pupil at Tewkesbury School describes the suspected stabbing at the school as the "worst nightmare of anybody".

Rich, whose son is in year 8, says his wife received news of the attack via text message. The pair went to the school with another son, who recently completed his GSCEs.

He joined other parents gathering inside a nearby garden centre, where school representatives were sharing updates.

"The school, the police and the garden centre have been brilliant. In completely unprecedented circumstances, they have done an outstanding job," he tells the BBC.

"The poor teacher. You don't expect to be attacked doing your job - helping children. Our thoughts go out to him an his family."

He adds: "You don't expect this - this is Gloucestershire."

Pupil Lily and her mother Carly

One pupil, Lily, tells the BBC that teachers didn't tell her class what had happened at first, other than the classroom doors were being locked.

"My mum had messaged me and I wasn't sure what was going on," she explains.

"I did get worried, but I did start to calm down because I was with my friends in the classroom."

She says pupils found out about the incident via the news, family and friends.

Lily says her teacher continued with the lesson and, once it ended, they stayed in the classroom playing games on their tablets and watched a film.

"We were all there for each other," she says.

Her mother, Carly, says she is "feeling better" now her daughter had been allowed to leave school. And she praises the school for how they responded to the suspected stabbing.

  17. Teacher dragged wardrobe across door to keep pupils safe - parentpublished at 13:50 British Summer Time 10 July 2023

We have just heard from a parent of a Tewkesbury School pupil, who says a teacher barricaded the door of his daughter's classroom to keep the pupils safe.

The father says his daughter - a year 8 pupil - was in drama class when the the incident occurred.

He tells BBC reporters at the scene it was a "big scary affair" to be told of the alleged stabbing via text message.

The father says he then received a video call from his daughter while she was inside the classroom.

"She was so brave, she took it really well," he says. "They were all frightened and scared but my daughter has been absolutely fantastic."

He also praises the teachers' response.

“The teachers have been absolutely phenomenal – I’ve seen some video from my daughter and I can just see him [his daughter's teacher] he’s there supporting the whole class," he says.

Describing the footage, he says the teacher sat by the door and barricaded it by placing boxes in front of the entrance.

He then says the teacher draged a wardrobe across the room to also place in front of the door.

He kept "everyone cool - even though he must have been scared himself".
