    Welsh First Minister Mark Drakeford says he is "saddened to hear the news".

    "My thoughts and those of people across Wales will be with him and his family this evening," he says.

    The Scottish first minster says in a statement that his "thoughts and prayers are with His Majesty The King".

    "I wish him the very best for a speedy recovery and return to public life," he says.

    "My thoughts are also with Her Majesty The Queen and other Members of the Royal Family at what I know will be a worrying time for them all."

    Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has wished the King "all the very best".

    Writing on X, he says: "On behalf of the Labour Party, I wish His Majesty all the very best for his recovery.

    "We look forward to seeing him back to swift full health."

    Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has said the whole country will be wishing the King well.

    Writing on X, he says: "Wishing His Majesty a full and speedy recovery.

    "I have no doubt he'll be back to full strength in no time and I know the whole country will be wishing him well."

    A bit more from Buckingham Palace now, which says King Charles returned this morning from Sandringham, in Norfolk, to London to commence treatment as an outpatient.

    The 75-year-old is at home in London this evening, the Palace adds.

    A little more than a week ago, the King had hospital treatment for an enlarged prostate - his wife Queen Camilla said afterwards he was recovering well.

    The procedure was carried out at the London Clinic private hospital, where Catherine, the Princess of Wales had surgery the same week.

    At the time, Buckingham Palace said King Charles had made his health problem public as a way of sending a message to other men to get their prostates checked. He thanked those who had "sent their good wishes".

    The Palace says the King's cancer is not of the prostate - that a "separate issue of concern was noted" during his treatment and that subsequent tests identified a form of cancer.

    "During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.

    "His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.

    "The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.

    "His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer."
