  5. Latest strike: What's actually changed?published at 16:35 British Summer Time 8 September 2016

    Ben Weisz
    Political reporter, BBC Sussex

The latest Southern strike is drawing to a close. Commuters at our key rail hubs will soon be able to go about their business again.

But what’s actually changed over the last 48 hours? In terms of conflict resolution, it seems like very little.

The RMT’s stance towards the government has certainly hardened. Last time, the union pleaded with ministers to intervene in the dispute. Now, Mick Cash accuses ministers of "propping them up, financially and politically."

There appears to be little love lost from the Department for Transport. Rail Minister Paul Maynard said the RMT was "preventing the delivery of a modern railway."

So, unable to woo each other, all sides are keen to bend the ears of you, the travelling public.

The Government is on the passenger’s side, it tells us. Southern wants to deliver you a more accessible, more punctual service, they say. And the RMT tells me it is striking "selflessly" – putting your safety above its members’ pay cheques.

As ever, though, passengers we've spoken to aren’t in the mood to be wooed. They just want a reliable rail service.
