  10. 'Anxiety' among Tories in Brighton Kemptownpublished at 00:01 British Summer Time 9 June 2017

    Election 2017

The BBC's Julian Worricker says there's "anxiety" among the Conservatives about Brighton Kemptown, which was held by Tory Simon Kirby with a majority of just 690 votes.

In Brighton Pavilion, the seat that was held by the Greens' Caroline Lucas, there are signs of a progressive alliance having come into play, he says.

In Hove, Labour is reasonably hopeful it will be able to hold on to that seat, he adds.

  16. Which South East constituencies are most vulnerable to change?published at 22:55 British Summer Time 8 June 2017

The electoral map of the South East is almost exclusively blue at the moment, but whilst there are several very safe seats, there are also plenty of constituencies that could see a change in the upcoming election.

We've compiled this list of our most vulnerable seats.

  17. Politicians in Hove react to the exit poll.published at 22:41 British Summer Time 8 June 2017

  18. The picture in Surrey: Analysis from our political reporterpublished at 22:28 British Summer Time 8 June 2017

    Jack Fiehn
    Political reporter, BBC Surrey

If any of the Conservative seats in Surrey change hands, then that would indicate an earthquake of opinion undetected by pollsters and pundits alike.

Nothing is certain in any election and, as we have seen in recent years expectations can be confounded. But history suggests it is extremely unlikely.

    Jeremy Hunt

There are certainly some intriguing subplots to look out for tonight. In South West Surrey, once again, the National Health Action party has fielded a candidate against the health secretary, Jeremy Hunt, and it will be interesting to see how well Dr Louise Irvine does.

At the beginning of the campaign there was talk of a 'progressive alliance', but although the Green Party are not standing, Labour and the Liberal Democrats are and that is likely to have an impact on how many votes she gets.

    Dominic Raab

Conservative and prominent leave campaigner, Dominic Raab, is standing in the borough which had the highest remain vote in Surrey in last year's EU referendum.

He's still the odds on favourite to win and by some margin. But it is worth looking to see if the more strongly pro EU parties, like the Liberal Democrats and the Green Party, get more support or whether the voters of Esher & Walton have moved on from the result.

It will be also interesting to see how well the Liberal Democrats perform across the board.

They have traditionally been the second party in Surrey, but two years ago, in the wake of the coalition government, their level of support plummeted from where it was in 2010, with Labour overtaking them in some seats.

They will be looking for signs of recovery in this election.

  19. The picture in Kent: Analysis from our political reporterpublished at 22:14 British Summer Time 8 June 2017

    Rajdeep Sandhu
    Political Reporter, BBC Radio Kent

There are 17 seats in Kent and all of them are held by the Conservatives.

South Thanet is the county’s most interesting seat. It was flooded by campaigners in 2015 as the place where Nigel Farage decided to stand but ultimately lost by 2,812 votes. It is the most marginal seat in Kent, but despite that the campaign has been quieter without a slew of senior Conservatives visiting.

    Craig Mackinlay

It is also a seat where the Conservative candidate Craig Mackinlay is facing charges of alleged overspending for his election expenses from the last general election.

The news came a week before the polls and Mr Mackinlay can still run for the seat. But if he was convicted then there could be a by-election.

That’s a lot of ifs and buts.

South Thanet General Election count 2015

The other thing to look at is UKIP, not just in South Thanet, but across all the seats in Kent.

In 2015 they came second in many, pushing Labour and the Liberal Democrats into third or fourth place.

But in the county elections we’ve seen a complete collapse in support with not a single UKIP sitting on Kent County Council.

If the Conservatives lose a seat in Kent, an area which is seen as a safe Conservative heartland, it could mean trouble for Theresa May.

  20. The picture in Sussex: Analysis from our political reporterpublished at 22:07 British Summer Time 8 June 2017

    Ben Weisz
    Political reporter, BBC Sussex

You might think Sussex is the Tories’ to lose. They currently hold all but two of the seats here.

Will confusion over the Tories’ adult social care plans cost them in elderly Eastbourne, a top Lib Dem target? And while they’re at it, might the Lib Dems take Lewes?

    Simon Kirby

Meanwhile, Labour is hoping for an upset in Brighton Kemptown where government minister Simon Kirby is sitting on a small majority.

All three Brighton & Hove seats were visited by the Prime Minister early in the campaign.

The Tories are taking those threats seriously.

    Kristy Adams

Don’t think they’re not on the offensive, though. Kristy Adams’ campaign has seen several government ministers descend on Hove.

A Tory landslide could cause an upset in Brighton Pavilion too. Though that’s much less likely.

It’d be a good night for Labour if they held on to Hove and took Kemptown.

If Crawley or Hastings turned from blue to red it would be something of a political earthquake.

    Possible, but unlikely.
