    So as a surprise Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian sent her a special message for her bravery over the past two months.

    A family of 14 has said life under lockdown has been "calmer and more sedate than normal everyday life".

    The Shaw family live in a Victorian semi-detached house in Mapperley, Nottingham, with mum Stacy and dad Tom joined by 12 of their children.

    Mr Shaw said while food shopping had become more difficult, the absence of a morning school run had led to a quieter start to the day.

    "It's been different, but probably not in the way everyone imagines," he said, adding they were all "coping well" under the circumstances.

    England's deputy chief medical officer says allowing families to mix is an "important public health issue" - but added it is "complicated" to make the rules fair.

    Speaking at the No 10 briefing earlier, Dr Jenny Harries said if two large families wanted to meet "you end up effectively with quite a large gathering".

    It comes as the UK government's begun to ease some lockdown measures in England.

    A singing police officer who's been raising spirits during lockdown, says the response to his videos has been "overwhelming".

    More than four million people have watched Tim Jones perform a song from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, while dressed in his police uniform.

    He now has 118,000 social media followers around the world through his regular live shows broadcast from home.

    "It is all about positivity and I have had so many nice messages," he said.

    From Jailhouse Rock to A Little Less Conversation, one Elvis impersonator has been doing his best to keep his neighbours entertained during lockdown.

    Tony Skingle, from Scarborough, has been donning his full gear and heading out onto his lawn on Saturday evenings to deliver a string of hits in a socially-distanced way.

    Tony says he's received thousands of comments on social media from around the world and says he just likes to "make people happy".

  7. Union calls for Covid cleaning of ASOS warehousepublished at 18:17 British Summer Time 13 May 2020

    A union has called for the closure and deep cleaning of a fashion retailer's warehouse after reports workers had tested positive for Covid-19.

    The GMB union has written to the co-founder of ASOS with concerns about its depot at Little Houghton, near Barnsley.

    The union claimed safety measure were "insufficient and do not provide protection to workers".

    ASOS said the "allegations are false" and the firm was following guidelines.

    An open water venue is among the first to welcome back swimmers since lockdown measures were introduced in March.

    Indoor pools and leisure centres across the UK remain closed.

    Dosthill Quarry in Tamworth said it had brought in measures to make sure swimmers could keep social distancing both in and out of the water.

    "We're limiting the numbers that come to the quarry, they are required to register online and reserve a place for a one-hour slot," said Ian Forster.

    Today fast food chain McDonalds re-opened 15 of its restaurants for delivery, with the majority in London and the East.

    Restaurants remain closed to customers, who have to order using a takeaway delivery app.

    The burger chain said it aimed to open all its drive-through sites by early June. Meanwhile rival Burger King is aiming to offer delivery and drive -though at sites by 30 June.

  10. 'Thank you' message sewn into NHS scrubspublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 13 May 2020

    A group of sewers are creating scrubs for the NHS with a message of thanks inside.

    Sarah Featherstone, from Sheffield, enlisted more than 20 friends after she saw an appeal for hospital scrubs.

    Within some of the scrubs, they have embroidered special 'thank you' labels to show their appreciation.

    She said: "I felt a bit helpless and I figured this was a good way to help out."

    BBC Radio Lincolnshire reporter Scott Dalton has been to the beach in Skegness to see how many people were out and about after the government's easing of lockdown restrictions.

    He said it remained very quiet, though he spoke to a family who had driven two hours from Sheffield - within the new regulations - for a "change of scenery".

    Since the UK went into lockdown, there have been reduced services on trains, buses and planes, and the government has advised against all but essential travel.

    Now, with restrictions being eased in England, more people are being encouraged back to work. The government says they should avoid public transport and walk, cycle or drive instead.

    But if they can't, what are the risks of taking the bus or train?

  13. Marks & Spencer cafes to reopen as lockdown easespublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 13 May 2020

    Marks & Spencer is to reopen 49 of its cafes across the UK from Thursday, the High Street retailer has said.

    It took the decision to reopen for takeaway customers after operating social distancing and putting extra hygiene measures in its stores.

    The retailer joins other chains reopening for takeaway customers.

    Pret A Manger and Caffe Nero are reopening sites, while fast food chains McDonalds and Burger King are opening up drive-through outlets.

    Fraudsters have developed a "worrying" scam based on the government's coronavirus contact tracing app, officials have warned.

    The smartphone app is being trialled on the Isle of Wight and is expected to be rolled out nationwide.

    People across Britain have received scam texts purportedly generated by the app, the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) said.

    The message links to a bogus website which asks for personal details.

    A golfer says practising shots in his living room helped for his first game back playing after the government eased some coronavirus lockdown restrictions.

    Bruce Allison, 73, from Harrogate teed off at 07:40 this morning - making him one of the first golfers back on the course since the government allowed some sports to resume under social distancing rules to keep players safe.

    Mr Allison said his club, in Pannal, organised a charity draw to find out who had the privilege of being one of the first to tee off.

    He said: "It was wonderful. For members it was terrific and great to be back on the course.

    "We have distance markings around the tee and you have to turn up five minutes before your tee time for when you've booked.

    "You don't touch the pin and clearly you can't shake hands with your partner after the game,” he added.

    Some people in England unable to work from home are returning from their workplaces this afternoon, as the government begins easing some lockdown measures.

    However, despite the government urging people to avoid public transport if possible some commuters said trains and buses were still too busy to observe social distancing rules.

  20. Is creative grass-cutting the answer to social distancing?published at 16:13 British Summer Time 13 May 2020

    The grass in parks around Birmingham is being cut in 2m strips to help people keep a safe distance between each other.

    Birmingham City Council said it was expecting a "significant increase in visits" to its 591 parks and other green spaces and saw this as a simple visual guide.

    The council said the grass had been left uncut during lockdown, so there should be "a notable difference" where it has been cut into the channels.
