    Some 6,023 homes in Cumbria are currently without electricity, according to Electricity North West's website.

    Allerdale, in west Cumbria, continues to be among the most affected areas, with customers in Carlisle and South Lakeland impacted as well.

    Earlier this evening Electricity North West director Rachel Parr told BBC Radio Cumbria that thousands of engineers were on standby, but some repairs could not go ahead until the winds had died down.

  2. 'Do not travel unless necessary'published at 21:05 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    People in Cumbria are being warned to "stay at home, stay safe and look after vulnerable relatives" as the impact of Storm Isha is felt.

    Ch Supt Carl Patrick, of Cumbria Police said they were expecting the worst of the weather between 20:00 GMT on Sunday and 01:00 GMT on Monday

    He told BBC Radio Cumbria: "Our advice is do not travel unless absolutely necessary. Don't travel through any flooded roads, don't go near the coast.

    "It's best to stay indoors, listen to the radio, monitor social media and keep up to date with what's happening."

    He said they were dealing with 37 incidents including 13 with trees down blocking the roads and eight collisions.

    As far as flooding, they are concerned about the Appleby area where emergency services mountain rescue, council and the Environment Agency are working to reduce the risk.

    There are concerns about the risk of flooding in Appleby in Cumbria tonight.

    The Environment Agency has issued some flood warnings, external which mean flooding is expected.

  4. Hundreds without power in Cumbriapublished at 20:28 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Electricity North West director Rachel Parr told BBC Radio Cumbria 615 customers were without supply in Allerdale, with damage in Carlisle as well.

    Ms Parr said thousands of engineers were on standby, but some repairs could not go ahead until the winds died down.

    "The challenge is that the winds are so strong and so high and a lot of the repairs that need to take place physically will be on the overhead line network," she said.

    "It's just not safe for our people to operate in those high winds."

    Ms Parr also advised people to make sure they had torches and blankets available in case power goes out during the night and to contact 105.

    "Make sure you are looking out for family and friends as well," she added.

    "Anyone that you think may be in a vulnerable circumstance."

  6. Roads team on standby to clear fallen treespublished at 20:11 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    People in Northumberland are being being warned to take "extreme caution" if they are travelling tonight.

    Northumberland County Council says wind speeds of 60-70 mph (97 -113 km/h) are expected.

    It says its teams are on standby to keep our its networks clear for emergency access with people asked to report any fallen trees on 0345 600 6400

    The council is encouraging people to check on loved ones or elderly neighbours.

  7. Road closures and roof blown off in Cumbriapublished at 19:34 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    A number of roads have been closed in Cumbria this evening as Storm Isha hits the region.

    The roof of a building has also been blown off in Broughton Moor.

    Cumberland Council has warned people not to travel unless their journey is essential.

    The current closures are:

    • Wyndham Road, Broughton Moor, roof blown off building
    • B5289 Keswick to Lodore Falls due to flooding
    • Cocker Bridge, Main Street, Cockermouth, between 6pm tonight and 7am tomorrow
    • Junction of Oaktree Crescent/Isel Road

  8. Cumbria emergency services on major incident alert as storm arrivespublished at 19:16 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    Emergency services in Cumbria say they are on standby for a major incident as Storm Isha hits the UK.

    Cumbria Police said Isha's impact was "already being felt" and multi-agency preparations had been under way for several days.

    However, it added the response was "now being placed on a higher official footing to ensure public safety".

    In a statement, it warned the county could see winds of up to 80mph (128km/h) with the highest speeds most likely in coastal areas.

  11. Amber wind warning in place until Monday morningpublished at 18:40 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January

    The amber warning from the Met Office, external says disruption to travel and utilities is likely.

    It says there is a good chance of power cuts and the potential to affect mobile phone coverage.

    Damage to buildings such as tiles blown from roofs is likely.

    It also warns about danger to life from large waves and beach material being thrown on to sea fronts and coastal roads.

    The warning for wind started at 18:00 on Sunday and runs until 09:00 on Monday.
