    Police have confirmed one man died in a flat fire in Kensworth this morning.

    Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, external said it received a call about the blaze in Ridgeway just before 08:00.

    An investigation into the cause is being carried out.

    Dry and cold this evening with a few clear intervals, but thickening cloud will bring outbreaks of rain from the west overnight, accompanied by strengthening winds. 

    Temperatures may briefly dip to 0C (32F) in the countryside, but rising in all areas by the end of the night.

    Tuesday will start cloudy, wet and windy through the morning, becoming drier into the afternoon but still rather cloudy with a few showers. Feeling mild though, with temperatures peaking at 12C (54F).

    In 2014 BBC Three Counties Radio presenter Helen Legh was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer and given 16 months to live.

    Fifteen months later, tonight on BBC One's Inside Out she shares her journey of discovery as she tries to work out how to tell her five-year-old daughter Matilda the truth.

    The programme will be broadcast at 19:30 on BBC1 in the East.

  5. Shabbington fire: Residents told to keep doors and windows closedpublished at 17:16 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2016

    Bucks and MK Fire Service, external has tweeted to advise people in Shabbington and Long Crendon to keep their doors and windows shut, and to stay away from the smoke plume.

    Crews are tackling a fire in a farm building in Shabbington. 

    A police helicopter crew reported the smoke plume could be seen from miles away.

    The National Police Air Service, external based in Benson, Oxfordshire, has shared this photo, external of the farm fire at Shabbington.

    The helicopter's crew reportedly first saw the smoke from London.

    Bucks and MK Fire Service said the fire was in a building which contained "mixed waste".

  7. Travel update: Road closure due to farm firepublished at 17:06 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2016

    Ickford Road in Shabbington, near Aylesbury, has been closed in both directions between the Crendon Road junction and the Sheldon Road junction, because of the farm building fire.

    Plumes of smoke have been reported in the area.

    Fire crews are currently at the scene of a fire at a farm in Ickford Road, Shabbington.

    Bucks and MK Fire tweeted to say the building involved contained "mixed waste".

  9. Men stabbed in Milton Keynespublished at 16:43 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2016

    Two men, both aged 21, have been left injured after they were stabbed in Milton Keynes on Saturday afternoon.

    One of the men was stabbed in the head and face in Fishermead Boulevard; the other was stabbed in the head and hip. They were treated in hospital for "non life-threatening" injuries.

    Thames Valley Police, external said the suspected attacker was black with a "small round face", and reassured the public that it was an "isolated incident".

  10. Travel: Delays continue on M25 at Potters Barpublished at 16:20 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2016

    There are still a lot of problems on the clockwise M25 at junction 25 for the A10 at Enfield because of an accident involving a car and a lorry.

    Two lanes are closed and delays are back to junction 23 for the A1(M).

  11. Police receive 101 call over doctor's receptionist errorpublished at 15:55 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2016

    A woman called police to report how she'd been referred to as "Mrs" instead of "Miss" by a doctor's receptionist, the Hertfordshire force, external has revealed.

    The force has released details of some of the inappropriate calls it gets to its 101 non-emergency number to remind people to only call it for police-related matters.

    Another caller dialled 101 to report a large trampoline was blowing around her garden, saying she was worried it might smash a window.

    The RSPCA said it was appalled by the suspected shooting of a much-loved goose in Sandon in Hertfordshire, describing it as "senseless" and "reckless".

    The organisation is investigating the crime with police. It is illegal under the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981 to intentionally kill or injure any wild bird.

    Grumpy Gertie's fate featured on the Jeremy Vine Show on Friday, when Peter Hunt from Eastbourne in Sussex texted in to offer £250,000 to catch the "vile killers".

    Earlier we told you how the body of a goose - allegedly shot dead at point-blank range by a gang in a 4x4 - had been exhumed for a post-mortem examination.

    Villagers in Hertfordshire have now been talking fondly of Grumpy Gertie, who would often be seen in a disused phone box in Sandon, which he had made his "home". It is now filled with letters, flowers, a lantern and children's pictures of the bird.

    Gay Ayton said: "He was a real character - he was hand-reared here and thought he was a duck... You'd see him in the middle of the road stopping traffic so the ducks could get by."

    Robin, the robot developed to help children recognise symptoms of the conditon, behaves like a toddler: he wanders around to look at pictures and toys, he plays, dances when he's bored, gets tired and asks for hugs.

    These traits enable children to relate to Robin, which the developers say is crucial to them in remembering how to treat their condition.

    Dr Lola Canamero (pictured), one of the designers, said that "children love robots, they really relate to them very quickly", and that this acts as a confidence-booster for their knowledge of diabetes and treating it.

    Wycombe Wanderers have moved into the League Two play-off places after leapfrogging over Bristol Rovers on Saturday by beating them 1-0 at home.

    But Chairboys boss Gareth Ainsworth wants his squad to aim even higher.

    "Fifty-two points means we won't get relegated which is brilliant but now we'll push on for the 61 points," he said.

    BBC Breakfast reported live from Wheathampstead this morning that, according to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, up to one in four community pharmacies in England could close, following plans to cut NHS funding by £170m.

    Reporter John Maguire spoke to Graham Phillips at the Manor Pharmacy, external, who said if the cuts were brought in, businesses like his "won't survive" as his was "already struggling".

    The Department of Health, external wants local chemists to be more evenly spread but ministers have said pharmacies that are the only providers in an area will be protected.
