    I'm at Ampthill Coroner's Court where people have been arriving for the pre-inquest hearing into the death of Wisbech Conservative activist, Elliott Johnson, whose apparent suicide on railway tracks near Sandy in Bedfordshire led to allegations of Tory party bullying.

    One of those arriving is Andre Walker (pictured) who, in a suicide note, Mr Johnson accused of "betraying" him. Mr Walker has denied the allegation.

    The coroner has already said the reported comments by Mr Johnson's family that some people should not attend today's hearing were "unacceptable".  

  2. Travel: A509 remains closed near Newport Pagnellpublished at 10:58 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March 2016

    The emergency services are still dealing with a serious accident on the outskirts of Newport Pagnell in north Buckinghamshire.

    The A509 is closed northbound between the Tickford and Chicheley roundabouts following a crash involving two vehicles.

    Thames Valley Police, external is advising motorists to avoid the area.

    A pre-inquest hearing is being held today into the death of a Bedfordshire toddler.

    Autumn Gooch was 19 months old when she died at her home in Maulden in April last year. The results of a post-mortem examination were inconclusive.

    Neglect charges were initially brought against her mother, Nikki Gooch, 28, but they have since been dropped by Bedfordshire Police, external. The youngster's death is the subject of a serious case review by the Central Bedfordshire Safeguarding Children Board, external.

    Luton Town made it three successive wins in League Two, as Jack Marriott's second half goal gave them a 1-0 win over Morecambe at Kenilworth Road last night.

    Nathan Jones, whose side are now just six points from the play-off places, said: "I'm proud of them... they gave me everything and we had a way about us to play.

    "They kept going, and they showed the character, the commitment they've had in the last two games."

    Police in Milton Keynes say a woman who was attacked in broad daylight on Sunday afternoon suffered "horrific injuries".

    The 33-year-old was struck on the head from behind on a footpath off Cranborne Avenue in Westcroft between 14:00 and 14:30 and was then kicked as she lay on the ground, by at least three attackers.

    She was left with a broken nose, fractured cheekbone, fractured eye socket and bruising to her hands, ribs, feet and back. Nothing was taken and officers say it was an unprovoked attack.

    The daughter of an elderly Luton man is criticising his care package, after he was left for almost an hour following his discharge from hospital.

    Michele Selwyn says her father David Cohen, 89, was "dumped like a parcel" and left in his home in a hospital gown and no pyjamas without his hearing aid for 45 minutes.   

    The Luton and Dunstable Hospital, external has apologised and said it aims to ensure transport is timed to fit social care arrangements, but it is "not always possible to precisely time a patient's arrival with the presence of a care worker or relative".

    One lane is blocked on the northbound M1 just before J14 for the A509 at Milton Keynes due to an accident. Congestion is back to J13 for the A421 at Bedford.

    The A509 in Newport Pagnell is closed northbound between Tickford roundabout and Chicheley roundabout due to an accident involving two-vehicles.

    A pre-inquest review into the death of a Conservative activist from Cambridgeshire, who was found dead on railway tracks near Sandy in Bedfordshire, is due to take place today.

    Wisbech activist, Elliott Johnson, 21, (pictured) a member of the youth wing of the Conservative party, died last September, and left notes accusing Tory members of bullying. 

    The allegations led to the resignation of Welwyn Hatfield MP Grant Shapps, who was co-chair of the party.
