  1. Firefighters who could respond to ambulance 999 calls is not 'papering over the cracks'published at 13:00

    Plans that could see firefighters respond to 999 calls for the ambulance, is not "papering over the cracks", the deputy chief fire officer of Hertfordshire fire service has told BBC Three Counties Radio.

    Darryl Keen says the proposal is a way of "supporting partner emergency services." 

    A decision will be made later today if a six-month trial can go ahead to give the green light for fire crews to respond cardiac arrests and chest pain calls.

    British Airways have released a statement saying that allegations that one of their pilots sexually abused children in Africa have been "shocking and horrifying".

    It comes after the company paid an undisclosed amount of money to victims of Simon Wood, 54, of Potters Bar, who took his own life in 2013 after being accused of sexually assaulting children. 

    The company said "though we do not bear any legal responsibility for Simon Wood's actions, we recognise the impact they had on his victims and the distress and suffering they caused. This recognition is reflected in the agreement we have made with the victims' representatives." 

  3. Woman and boy released after three car crash in Buckinghamshirepublished at 12:20

    An injured woman and boy, external have been released by firefighters following a three-car collision in Buckinghamshire this morning. 

    A man was also injured in the crash on the A41 Bicester Road at Fleet Marston about 09:15.

  5. Trott 'delighted' with World Track Cycling goldpublished at 11:50

    Hertfordshire's Laura Trott says she's delighted to have won Great Britain's first goldmedal of the world track cycling championships in London.

    The Cheshunt rider claimed victory in the women's scratch race at the same venue where she became double Olympic champion in 2012. 

    "To be here and to win it, obviously it’s amazing. I absolutely love being at this track so to win one here in front of my friends and family is incredible so I'm really happy."

  6. Wycombe sign Reading's Liburd on loanpublished at 11:30

    League Two play-off hopefuls Wycombe Wanderers sign Reading striker Rowan Liburd on a one-month loan.

    He has played three Royals games since joining from Billericay Town, where he scored 22 goals in five months.

    Liburd, 23, comes in to cover Paris Cowan-Hall, who is likely miss the rest of the season after injuring his ankle.

    The widow of a man knocked down and killed by an 82-year-old driver has called for elderly motorists to be regularly retested.

    Colin Moxley, 67, died when Joan Mitchelmore's car ploughed into him outside Sainsbury's in Harpenden, Hertfordshire on 13 January 2015.

    In a victim impact statement, which she read to St Albans Crown Court, Yvonne Moxley called for changes to the law.   

    Mitchelmore admitted causing death by careless driving after pressing the accelerator instead of the brake.

    Hertfordshire's Laura Trott has claimed a first gold for Great Britain at the Track Cycling World Championships in London.

    A man has been arrested in Bedford this morning after officers responded to reports of a man who was believed to have a weapon. 

    Bedfordshire Police say they were called at about 07:40 to a property in Milburn Road.

  11. Decision on Tory activist's inquest to be made todaypublished at 09:42 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2016

    The coroner investigating the death of Conservative activist Elliott Johnson, whose body was found on rail tracks in Sandy last September, is expected to release his decision on the scope of the inquest later.

    Mr Johnson, 21, wrote letters in which he claimed he was bullied by Tory supporters.

    His parents want his inquest to be widened to include evidence about the culture in the Conservative Party.   

  12. Hertfordshire firefighters could respond to 999 ambulance callspublished at 09:14 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2016

    Firefighters in Hertfordshire could respond to 999 calls for ambulances in a bid to cut waiting times.

    The proposal is set to be endorsed by county councillors today.

    Initially fire crews would only be responding to cardiac arrests and chest pain calls over an initial six-month trial period.

    British Airways has agreed to pay an undisclosed amount of money to children sexually abused by one of its pilots in Africa.

    Simon Wood, 54, of Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, took his own life in 2013 after he was accused of sexually assaulting children.

    He was hit by a train 11 days before he was due to appear in a UK court charged with abuse in Africa and the UK. BA agreed to the payment but has denied liability.
