  3. National Trust confirm travellers move from Dunstable Downspublished at 17:50

    The National Trust has confirmed it's moved on a group of travellers from Dunstable Downs.

    The group moved to the beauty spot last week, after leaving a car park in the town centre. 

    The National Trust says it "employed enforcement officers to serve notice on the travellers who then left of their own accord."

    A body believed to be that of a missing junior doctor with links to Royston in Hertfordshire has been found according to police.

    Rose Polge, 25, worked at Torbay Hospital in Devon and went missing in February. 

    A woman's body recovered from the sea in Dorset is thought to be that of Dr Polge. Her family have been informed.

  7. Dishwasher fire in Bedfordshirepublished at 17:25

    A couple in Bedfordshire awoke in the early hours of this morning to a fire in their kitchen.

    Firefighters were called to the property in Lodge Road, Sharnbrook, at 02:12 where they found a dishwasher on fire. 

    One of the firefighters said the couple were "fortunate" as they were woken by their smoke alarm and quickly managed to alert the emergency services.

    Milton Keynes Dons' manager Karl Robinson has hinted he may leave the club at the end of the season as they look set to return to League One.

    Saturday's 4-0 home defeat by Championship relegation rivals Rotherham left Robinson's side nine points from safety with five games to play.

    He said if the club was relegated, where it went from there onwards was "down to me and the chairman to get right - if that's what the chairman wants".

    A woman's in a critical condition after a crash on the A1 Barnet Bypass, near Borehamwood, at the weekend.

    A silver Toyota Yaris lost control at about 16:30 on Satuday and crashed into the nearside barrier on the southbound carriageway. 

    The driver of the car, a woman in her 30s, suffered serious head injuries and was airlifted to hospital.

    More now on the swan that was rescued in Milton Keynes earlier and is now in the care of a wildlife rescue centre.

    Tracey Walker, from Shires Wildlife Care, external, told me the young swan, who was rescued from the Caldecotte flyover by Richie Evans, is "battered and bruised" from a possible crash landing and could potentially have botulism, external.

    The swan has been given a charcoal flush to get rid of toxins, along with fluids and antibiotics. 

    Ms Walker said the swan is "very skinny" and all fluids are being administered by tubes so the bird will have to be monitored over the next few days.

  12. Speed camera set on fire in Leighton Buzzardpublished at 16:00

    A speed camera has been set on fire and stolen from Soulbury Road in Leighton Buzzard.

    The fire was started in the early hours of 2 April and the camera was stolen from inside the housing, police said.

    "Not only was this a needless act of vandalism, there was also a theft of the camera itself, which costs thousands of pounds," a spokesperson for the Beds, Cambs and Herts Cameras, Tickets and Collisions team said.

  13. Man rescues swan from road in Milton Keynespublished at 15:40

    A man rescued a swan today from the Caldecotte flyover in Milton Keynes.

    Richie Evans took the swan, which he said was wandering along the road with a bad limp, to a local vet where it is now being treated.

  14. Florentine table tops of 'outstanding significance'published at 15:10

    The decision to place a temporary export bar on a pair of Florentine table tops worth £1.5m follows a recommendation by the Reviewing Committee on the Export of Works of Art and Objects of Cultural Interest, external (RCEWA).

    It made its recommendation about the tops, which had been housed at the country home of the 3rd Earl Cowper in Panshanger until the mid-20th Century, on the grounds they were of "outstanding significance for the study of pietre dure" - a mosaic technique.

    Christopher Rowell from RCEWA said: “Each piece of coloured stone... had to be cut precisely and fitted into the composition. Imagine designing and making a jigsaw from stone and cutting every piece meticulously without modern cutting machinery."

  17. Export ban placed on £1.5m Italian table topspublished at 14:16 British Summer Time 11 April 2016

    A temporary export ban has been placed on a pair of Florentine table tops worth £1.5m so a buyer can be found to keep them in the UK.

    The ornate tops - which had belonged to George Clavering-Cowper, external, 3rd Earl Cowper, a renowned 18th Century art collector - had been at the family's house in Panshanger, Hertfordshire, until the mid-20th Century. The current owner has not been revealed.

    The decision to defer the export licence was made on the grounds they were "closely connected with our history and national life" and of of "outstanding aesthetic importance". 

    Culture Minister Ed Vaizey said they had "immense academic value".

  18. Gypsy and traveller sites to be sold across Buckinghamshirepublished at 13:50

    All five gypsy and traveller sites in Buckinghamshire are to be sold due to "budget pressures", the county council say.

    Buckinghamshire County Council made the decision to sell Green Park in Amersham, The Orchards in Chalfont St Peter, Mansion Lane in Iver, Wapseys Wood in Gerrards Cross and Bottom Waltons in Burnham last week.

    The council say, external there is a "lack of funding to invest in the sites" and the best option is to sell the areas to "residents or potential landlords".

    East Herts Rural Police said such behaviour is "cruel, immoral and extremely dangerous", and that they have checked the area but cannot find any offenders.  

    "When we eventually catch the offenders unfortunately they would be driven to our custody block in a comfortable car, not attached to a lead," the police tweeted, external.
