    If you purchased a lottery ticket in Milton Keynes last month, you could be a millionaire.

    The National Lottery is trying to track down the lucky winner of the Lotto Millionaire Raffle from the draw of Wednesday, 15 February.

    The winning code from that draw was BLUE 6946 0642.

    The ticket holder has until 14 August to claim their million pound prize.

    If no-one comes forward with the winning ticket before the prize claim deadline, then the prize money, plus all the interest it has generated, will go to help National Lottery-funded projects across the UK.

  2. Witnesses to car-as-weapon attack being soughtpublished at 14:11 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March 2017

    Hertfordshire Police are seeking witnesses to the attack on Wednesday lunchtime when a car was driven at a man in Watford.

    Det Sgt Chris Parperi said: "It would have been relatively busy in Hempstead Road when the incident occurred and I would be keen for anyone who witnessed what happened or who saw the car leaving the scene to please contact police with information. 

    "I would also be interested to hear from anyone who was in the underpass [on Rickmansworth Road prior to the car incident] and saw the victim being grabbed or the offender running from the scene." 

    The man was hit by a grey Vauxhall Insignia at about 13:10.

  4. Man has severe injuries after car 'driven at him'published at 13:54 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March 2017

     A 27-year-old man has been left severely injured after a car was driven at him in Watford yesterday.

    Hertfordshire Police said the victim had been walking through a Rickmansworth Road underpass at about 13:10 with a group of friends when he was grabbed and punched by another man. The victim was uninjured and the attacker ran off.

    The group carried on their journey, but as they crossed Hempstead Road a grey Vauxhall Insignia was deliberately driven at him.

    He was taken to Watford General Hospital.

    A 66-year-old man has been killed while crossing the road in Bishop's Stortford. 

    Hertfordshire Police has named the man as Iain Stevenson, who lived locally. 

    It happened on London Road opposite Aldi at about 19:40 yesterday. 

    Officers are appealing for witnesses, especially anyone who saw the car involved, a grey Volkswagen Touran.

    Hybrid Air Vehicles is based at Cardington Airfield in Bedfordshire.

    It crash-landed during its second test flight in August.

    After being scheduled to take his car out in today's artificially wet testing in Barcelona , Lewis Hamilton has said that an "electrical fault" has meant he won't be able to take his Brackley-based Mercedes out after all.

    Testing resumes next Tuesday and Hamilton says he "can't wait".

    The audience at a sold out Milton Keynes Theatre, external took to their feet last night, to show their appreciation to Sheridan Smith, for her latest performance of Fanny Brice in the hit musical, Funny Girl. 

    The star of stage and TV screen (including a recent role in the BBC's The Moorside  drama about the Shannon Matthews case) is in the town all week in the touring production, reprising the role which she created on the West End stage.

    I was lucky enough to be in the audience watching this tour de force of a performance, which the audience described as "amazing" and "outstanding".

    Although she's the outright star of the show, the whole company put on a top tapping performance.

    Dunstable Downs Golf Club, external has apologised after a dog was shot on their land by a pest controller who said he was targeting a fox.

    Mark Cornell was walking his German shepherd, Bruno, near the course one evening last month when the incident occurred.

    Mr Cornell said: "There was someone with a torch in the field. There was a big gunshot and Bruno let out the most horrendous noise. It wasn't a bark or a yelp, it was more like a scream"

    Luckily, Bruno survived although he needed an operation to remove several pellets from his face.

    The pest controller who fired the shot has paid for Bruno's vets bills.

    The golf club says it has allowed licensed gun owners to shoot vermin in their land for over 30 years, but it does not employ them. 

    It has now put a stop to shooting vermin for the time being.

  13. Forth day of Formula 1 testing, and it's wet in Barcelona (sort of) published at 10:57 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March 2017

    The Formula 1 teams are back out at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.

    The track will start wet today, after it was artificially dampened last night after testing had finished and again this morning. 

    The idea is to provide some testing for Pirelli’s new wet tyres. Racing director Mario Isola said he hoped the teams would get running on the "extreme" and "intermediate" tyres. But it is unclear how many will take them up. 

    Lewis Hamilton, for one, did not sound at all keen, joking he might find he had pulled a muscle in the morning.

    However, Hamilton is down to test his Brackley-based Mercedes, while Sergio Perez is out in his Silverstone-based Force India.

  14. Hertfordshire police 'requires improvement'published at 10:54 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March 2017

    A report, external by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) has found Hertfordshire Police "requires improvement".

    The force is also one of three in England which HMIC said had not been "responding appropriately" to emergency calls during inspections. 

    Chief Constable Charlie Hall said: "Our focus must and will remain on identifying and assessing the threat, risks and vulnerability inherent in incidents reported to us to enable us to provide the right response - especially to vulnerable victims. Following the inspection I commissioned in-house audits which have shown much positive progress in the deploying of resources and it will remain a key focus of my attention."

    We mentioned earlier that Bedfordshire Police is the worst-rated force in England according an official HMIC report out today.

    But what about our other forces?

    Thames Valley Police has been rated as "good".

    Commenting on the report the Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police, Francis Habgood, said: "I welcome the finding by Her Majesty's Inspectorate Constabulary that the force keeps victims at the centre of its investigations and that, through our training programmes, front line staff have a good understanding of vulnerability and can identify victims who are at risk of further harm."

    The driver of a Ford Focus is in hospital with serious injuries after being cut from the car by firefighters last night. The 24-year-old driver of the second car involved - a Volvo - is under arrest on suspicion of dangerous driving. 

    Fifth Avenue, the A1019, remains closed in both directions at the Burnt Mill Roundabout.

    Essex Police are continuing to investigate.

  17. Teen in court over police dog and officer stabbingspublished at 09:44 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March 2017

    A teenager is due to appear at Stevenage youth court later charged with stabbing a Hertfordshire police dog and his handler. 

    The 16-year-old boy from London, who can't be named because of his age, is accused of attacking PD Finn, a German shepherd, and injuring his handler.

    The police dog was left with life-threatening injuries and the officer, PC Dave Wardell, was treated in hospital after the incident in Stevenage.

    Both have since made a full recovery and returned to active duty shortly before Christmas.

    The accused denies actual bodily harm relating to the officer's injuries and one charge of damaging property, which relates to the dog's injuries.

    A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving after a collision in Harlow. 

    It happened in Fifth Road just after midnight and the road remains closed this morning.

    Both drivers had to be cut free from their vehicles.

  19. Police chief says inadequate rating 'does not give a fair reflection' published at 09:33 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March 2017

    The chief constable of Bedfordshire Police has said he has found it "incredibly disappointing" that force has been "so unfairly judged".

    Jon Boutcher said that "there is so much missing from the report".

    Bedfordshire Police has been rated "inadequate" - the only force in England to get the lowest rating.

    Mr Boutcher said: "I fully accept that there are areas we need to improve on, but to judge the force as inadequate does not give a fair reflection of all the fantastic and innovative work being carried out."

    He also said that Bedfordshire has to deal with "complex crimes" not seen by other forces of a similar size.

  20. Police force is the 'worst in the country' according watchdog published at 08:57 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March 2017

    Bedfordshire Police is the worst-rated force in England according to an official report out today.

    It's the only one in England rated "inadequate".

    The study on police effectiveness was carried out by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC), external . It says Bedfordshire Police is failing to keep people safe and reduce crime.

    The report says that the force does not have enough police officers and PCSOs to "provide effective community engagement and visible, targeted foot patrols".  

    However, the report acknowledges that Bedfordshire faces more acute financial challenges than other forces.

    It also says that "in Luton, the complexity and high volume of crime represent a significant operational challenge for a small force with very stretched resources" and officers "day to day are doing their best with very limited resources, and often under extreme pressure".

    It also sates that Befordshire Police "acknowledges the problems that exist and is determine to improve".
