  1. Exclusive: Airlander gets giant inflatable feet (no, it's not an April fool) published at 13:01 British Summer Time 3 April 2017

    In August last year, the world's longest aircraft  Airlander 10 took to the skies over Cardington. 

    However, on only its second test flight, it nosedived on landing and suffered damage to its cockpit.

    Since then repairs and alterations have been taking place and I've been given exclusive access to see what those changes are.  

    The first big addition is that giant inflatable feet have been added, described as "petals", that will now protect the cockpit from crushing if any similar nosedives happen again.

    Auxiliary landing system

    The new auxiliary landing system, as it's called, will stow away in flight and can be inflated in 15 seconds if needed.

    A series of courses are being offered to young drivers in Bedfordshire to reduce casualties.

    Anyone aged between 16 and 25 can apply to the courses, to help improve driving behaviour and attitude.

    So far nearly 1,000 young people have signed up to the scheme, set up by Central Bedfordshire and Luton Borough councils, and they can even try out a skid-pan experience.

    The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh will officially open Priory View, which includes state-of-the-art apartments for the over 55s along with a spa, gym, hair salon, restaurant and care services.

    Residents have already been handed out formal invites...

    Shares in Hertfordshire-based UK chip designer Imagination Technologies have plunged almost 70% after Apple said it would end a deal to use its products.

    The Kings Langley company  designs the computer chip technology that drives the graphics  for mobile devices like the iPhone and tablet computers.

    The move by Apple, Imagination's largest customer, means the loss of lucrative royalty payments.

    Imagination said, external  Apple would stop using its products in about "15 months to two years' time".

    Apple is developing its own technology, but Imagination said this would be difficult without infringing patents.

    It looks like something from outer space, but this giant wooden egg, known as the Exbury Egg, external , has landed in Milton Keynes.

    It will be moored at the canalside at Stanton Low Park until 8 May, before slowly floating to a new mooring at Great Linford until 14 May.

    It's part of a free exhibition by artist Stephen Turner called  Everything Comes from the Egg, external , and is part of the MK50 birthday celebrations.

    A Luton man is demanding an apology from the police after being arrested for terrorism offences at Luton Airport.

    He was going on holiday to Turkey with his wife and children last October when they were stopped from boarding a flight.

    The couple were released without charge three days later, but the man, who wished to remain anonymous, told the BBC: "If you're Muslim, no-one's safe.

    "I've done nothing wrong, and if they can do it to me [arrest], they can do it to you as well."

    The Metropolitan Police confirmed that on 26 October they arrested and bailed a man and a woman, both 35, on suspicion of the preparation of terrorist acts.

    A spokesman said: "They have since been released from bail, with no further action.

    "The man and woman have made a formal complaint to the Met, which has been referred to the Counter Terrorism Command's Professional Standards Team."

    A man was seriously hurt when the BMW he was driving hit a central reservation and overturned on the A505 near Baldock, Hertfordshire.

    The crash happened on the eastbound carriageway between the Weston Hills Tunnel and Clothall Road at 14:30 on Saturday.

    The driver, in his 30s, and his passenger were taken to hospital. The passenger has since been released.

    Police are appealing for witnesses.
