There will be thicker cloud and outbreaks of light rain and drizzle spreading eastwards through this evening and overnight.

It'll turn misty in places, with light south to south-westerly winds.

Temperatures under clear skies initially dropping to about 9C (48F), but by the end of the night everywhere will have risen back into double figures.

A grey and mild start to Saturday, with some patchy mist, rain and drizzle.

As the day goes on, drier and brighter conditions should gradually spread northwards.

Some northern parts of the region may hold on to some very patchy rain until late afternoon.

Temperatures will range from 15C (59F), where we keep the cloud, to 19C (66F) in the best of any sunshine.

Monarch Airlines has refused to confirm speculation it has been approached by Norwegian Air Shuttle to buy all or part of the business.

Luton-based Monarch employs 2,750 staff and flies to more than 40 destinations.

Sky News has reported, external that the airline is exploring a joint venture or a feeder deal with another carrier - while industry sources have told the Press Association that Norwegian Air is keen to bolster its global network.

But neither party will confirm the reports.

Monarch said it was "having regular discussions on a number of options with potential strategic partners" - and Norwegian Air said it doesn't "comment on speculation".

Fears for Monarch's future were put to rest by a £165m investment boost from its majority shareholder Greybull Capital in December.

We've just had some more information from the police about the multi-vehicle crash which closed the M1 northbound between J8 and J9 earlier.

The vehicles involved were a Vauxhall Meriva, a Peugeot, a Ford Transit panel van and a Ford Transit Luton van.

One man has been airlifted to hospital for treatment.

Hertfordshire police officers are still at the scene and are assisting with vehicle recovery.

Two lanes have now opened on the northbound M1 following a multi-vehicle crash between J8 and J9.

Earlier the motorway was closed in both directions, and two lanes remain closed northbound so there are long delays in the area.

Earlier the fire service tweeted that it had released one person from a vehicle.

Earlier we told you about a "serious crash" on the M1 - we now have a few more details.

Hertfordshire Police has told us the force was called just after 11:00 to reports of a multiple vehicle collision northbound, between J8 for Hemel Hempstead and J9 for Flamstead.

Both the north and southbound carriageways have been closed to allow for the air ambulance to land.

It's here - there's just one more sleep to go before the first live show of the latest Strictly Come Dancing series hits our screens on Saturday night.

Fifteen celebrities and their professional dancing partners will take to the floor on the BBC One show, and Watford comedian, TV and musical theatre star Brian Conley will be one of them.

He's performing the Tango with partner Amy Dowden to Temptation by Heaven 17.

So how does he think he's going to do?

"I've done a bit of dancing in the past. I'm an enthusiastic dancer but I'm not that good!"

"It's much more than getting your footsteps right... it's your hands... and even the way your knees bend.

"But I'm prepared to work hard and enjoy it - that's the main thing and I really have so far."

Brian is also playing Buttons in Cinderella at the Milton Keynes Theatre this Christmas. The venue has already had to cancel the performance on the same night as the Strictly final, as he will be returning to the show for a final group dance - but what if he does very well and the show clashes with other performances?

Well, it turns out a family member who is part of the Strictly team is not that confident!

Conley's brother has been the floor manager of Strictly since it started, and when Brian asked him what would happen if his progress in the show affected the pantomime, he replied: "Bri, with the greatest of respect, you ain't going to win!"

"I'm getting so much confidence from my brother, but who knows," Brian laughed.

It's World Rhino Day, external, don't you know?

Apparently it's the day when organisations involved with rhinos raise awareness of the plight of five species of rhinos in the world - greater one-horned, white, black, Sumatran and Javan.

They - and members of the public - "celebrate rhinos in their own unique ways".

I'm not quite sure exactly what this means, but Whipsnade Zoo is joining in and reminding people that they are home to a herd of white rhinos, which are classified as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Vauxhall's main distribution centre in Luton is celebrating its 50th anniversary today.

Vauxhall Parts was one of the largest facilities in the country when it opened in 1967. The huge warehouse on Toddington Road stocks about 50,000 parts, many for the Vivaro van which is built on the line in Luton.

It has a smaller workforce than five decades ago but distributes parts worth more than £1m every day, and now has direct access to the M1 via the new Junction 11A.

Today, in celebration of its golden anniversary, a gold-wrapped truck will be unveiled by former England football captain Bryan Robson.
