    Armed officers are in Windsor today protecting the public as part of Coronation celebrations.

    While events continue to mark the crowning of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, Thames Valley Police is reminding people to come forward if they see anything suspicious.

    Officers will be patrolling around the town ahead of the Coronation concert this evening.

    In a statement the force said: "If you are out and about and notice anything suspicious, or something that you feel is not right, please speak to any of the officers around who will be able to support you."

    The Queen Mary II crew has taken a moment to mark the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

    The Cunard team gathered on the top deck in Southampton to form the royal cypher CRIII as a special tribute to the new King, who is now Lord High Admiral of the United Kingdom Royal Navy & Merchant Navy.

    Captain Aseem Hashmi said: It was an absolute privilege to pay a special tribute for the Coronation. Our company shares a unique bond with the Royal Family and it was only right that we joined the nation in celebrating this historic occasion.”

    Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Take That are among the stars who will take to the stage for the Coronation concert in Windsor later.

    Nicole Scherzinger, Olly Murs, Paloma Faith and Andrea Bocelli will also perform at the event.

    Hugh Bonneville will host the concert, which is being held to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles on Saturday.

    The show will be attended by 20,000 members of the public and air on BBC One and BBC Radio 2 from 20:00 BST.

    Other names on the line-up include members of the Royal Ballet, the Royal Opera, the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Royal College of Music and the Royal College of Art.

    The royal patronages will come together for the first time to create a one-off performance featuring Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa, who takes over the starring role in Doctor Who later this year, and Olivier Award nominee Mei Mac.

    The concert will also feature pre-recorded video sketches from Top Gun star Tom Cruise, Dynasty actress Dame Joan Collins, adventurer Bear Grylls and singer Sir Tom Jones, who will recite little-known facts about the monarch.

    Thousands of street parties and lunches are due to take place today ahead of a star-studded concert at Windsor Castle for the second day of events for the Coronation.

    Members of the Royal Family will attend community events during the day before seeing Katy Perry and Take That perform later.

    The more relaxed nature of Sunday's events come after King Charles and Queen Camilla were crowned yesterday.

    The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh will attend a Coronation Big Lunch in Cranleigh, Surrey today, while the Princess Royal and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence will join a community street party in Swindon.

    The Duke of York's daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie will also attend a big lunch in Windsor.

    Later at 20:00 BST, the Coronation Concert takes place at Windsor Castle and will be broadcast live on BBC One and BBC Radio 2.

  9. How Penny Mordaunt played a starring role in the Coronationpublished at 10:00 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Penny Mordaunt, MP for Portsmouth North, caused a flurry of activity on social media yesterday as she played a starring role at the Coronation - holding ceremonial swords for more than an hour.

    On Twitter many pointed out the Conservative MP's strength, even winning praise from her party's political foes.

    Speaking to Times Radio before the ceremony, she joked she had been preparing by "doing some press-ups".

    The Leader of the House of Commons said she was honoured to be involved in the ceremony through her role as Lord President of the Council.

    Notably, she became the first woman to carry and present the sword - which symbolises royal power and the King accepting his duty and knightly virtues.

    We love how this school has been celebrating the King's life with a royal procession around its playground.

    Fairfield's Primary in Basingstoke, had a marching band, royal horses and even a King Charles III and a Queen Consort Camilla.
