  5. Daughter's tribute to her dad who was hit by a car at a hospital car parkpublished at 17:36

    The daughter of a man who died from injuries he suffered as a car reversed into him on a hospital car park has paid tribute to him.

    Ivan Tranter, from Kingswinford, parked his car on 3 November and was walking across the car park of Russells Hall Hospital when he was struck by a car reversing into a space, said West Midlands Police, which is appealing for more information, external.

    His daughter Christine, said: "My dad was a very loving father to me and a loving husband to my mum Beatrice. He was the light of my life."

    The HS2 link between Birmingham and Crewe is set to open six years earlier than originally anticipated but it will be a "bitter blow" to Staffordshire communities, a councillor has warned.

    Mark Winnington, county council member for the economy, environment and transport, said the route will cut through miles of countryside and be a blow to communities.

    The HS2 line from Birmingham to Crewe is set to open in 2027.

  10. Witness appeal after 'racist and Islamophobic' attack on buspublished at 16:51

    A woman was subjected to racial abuse and threats she would be set on fire in what police have dubbed a “racist and Islamophobic” attack.

    A 22-year-old woman was travelling on the number 50 bus along Alcester Road, Moseley at 13:50 on 24 November, when West Midlands Police said she was subjected to racist verbal abuse, external from another passenger.

    After half an hour, officers said "the situation escalated as he repeatedly lit a lighter and intimated that he would set her on fire". The force is appealing for information.  

  11. Fines threat for council tax discount fraudsters in Sandwellpublished at 16:36

    Residents face £70 fines if they do not provide Sandwell council with information to back up their claims for council tax discounts or provide false information.

    The authority awards a 25% council tax discount to more than 45,000 households with only one adult. In the past financial year, more than £15m was awarded in discounts.

    Letter to resident from Northgate

    Now the Labour-led council is cracking down on any residents who are claiming benefits to which they are not entitled. 

    In 2014, the council said a company acting for it, Northgate, had helped it collect an extra £347,421 and two residents who had been fraudulently claiming the discount have been fined since it began the exercise afresh earlier this month, external.  

  12. Walsall 'did all they could to keep Dean Smith'published at 16:23

    Walsall FC has now confirmed the news we brought you earlier - that Dean Smith has agreed to join Brentford subject to contract, and that his assistant Richard O'Kelly will be going with him.

    The Saddlers said they received an approach from Brentford ahead of their game against Bradford City on Saturday.

    The club said a compensation package for both Smith and O'Kelly had been agreed and the pair would leave with immediate effect. 

    "We are disappointed to lose Dean," said chairman Jeff Bonser. 

    "We categorically did not want him to leave this football club and did all we could to keep him at the helm."

  13. Wheelchair tennis star Jordanne Whiley to gain freedom of Dudleypublished at 16:05

    Dudley council is set to make wheelchair tennis star Jordanne Whiley MBE an Honorary Freewoman of the Borough, external.

    Whiley, from Halesowen, is already an MBE and has already achieved a Calendar Grand Slam with her doubles partner, Yui Kamiji of Japan.

    In September, Whiley also won her first Grand Slam singles title by beating her doubles partner in the US Open women's wheelchair final.  

  14. Daughter says her father's legacy will live on after death following Oldbury eventpublished at 15:26

    Pooja Dhariwal said the legacy of her father Inderjit Singh Dhariwal would live on and would never be forgotten, after he died from the serious head injuries he suffered at an Oldbury function.

    Nicolas Salhan, 36, of Haybridge Avenue, Stourbridge, and Jonathan Davies, 42, from Old Bridge Walk, Rowley Regis, are set to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court charged with his murder.

    Online retailers are expecting a big boost in sales today as Cyber Monday is predicted to be one of the busiest shopping days before Christmas. 

    DPD, one of the Midlands' biggest distribution companies, is expecting to deliver one million packages from its Hinckley site overnight. 

    That's an increase of 30% on last year. Nationally the company has taken on 1,000 extra drivers over the past year.
