  2. Wolverhampton house explosion: Woman 'recovering well' in hospitalpublished at 13:12

    A 73-year-old woman who was almost crushed to death when her house collapsed in a gas explosion says she's "comfortable and recovering well" in hospital.

  3. Fire service provides assistance in Yorkpublished at 12:04

    West Midlands Fire Service is among the organisations helping people after flooding in the North of England.

    The fire service posted on Facebook, external its members walked 1.6km in the dark to rescue a lady trapped in a stable.

    West Midlands Fire Service writes: "As well as carrying out several rescues in York, our crews have also been checking on the welfare of those who've opted to stay in their properties."

  4. Motorcyclist dies in two-car crashpublished at 11:36

    A motorcyclist has died after a collision with two cars in Rowley Regis.

    The crash happened at about 17:00 on Monday on Oldbury Road in Rowley Regis.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service said it arrived at the scene within six minutes of being called and found the rider in cardiac arrest but it was "not possible to save him".

  5. Video: House explosion 'was like a bomb had gone off'published at 11:10

    I'm reporting live from Wolverhampton this morning as a house on Penn Road was brought down to a stack of bricks after an explosion yesterday.

    One local resident told me it was a like a "bomb had gone off" when it happened.

    Within the debris you can see luggage, a head board, the woman's car and roof tiles - complete devastation.

  6. Football: Bleak times for Villa, now 11 points from safetypublished at 10:44

    It's looking bleak for Aston Villa after another defeat left them 11 points from safety in the Premier League. 

    Villa lost 2-0 away at Norwich, which extends their win-less league run to 18 games. 

    Boss Remi Garde (pictured) believes his players aren't playing with confidence, but the "quality is there to succeed".

    West Brom boss Tony Pulis says Saido Berahino was lucky to be on the substitutes' bench for the 1-0 win over Newcastle.

    Berahino has not started a game for the Baggies since 31 October and Pulis hinted at behind-the-scenes issues.

    Before the match, Pulis said: "He's lucky to be on the bench, never mind starting. He's a smashing kid but lets himself down at times."

  8. Wolverhampton house explosion: 'Washing machine saved woman's life'published at 09:25

    A 73-year-old woman from Wolverhampton is "lucky to be alive" after an explosion which brought her house down.

    Station commander Wayne Little, from West Midlands Fire Service, says: "It was the washing machine and kitchen appliances which protected the woman from the collapsing floors above."

  9. Stability of Wolverhampton houses investigated after explosionpublished at 08:46

    Investigations are taking place into the stability of houses in part of Wolverhampton after an explosion. 

    The blast, believed to have been caused by a gas leak, brought down a house in Penn Road just after 08:00 yesterday morning. 

    An elderly woman was trapped for more than an hour-and-a-half, but escaped with minor injuries.
