  3. Travel: Delays on M42published at 17:49

    There are problems on the M42 northbound near J6 for Birmingham Airport. 

    One lane is blocked, due to an accident, and there's congestion to J5 for the A41 (Solihull).

    The government's target of bringing net immigration down below 100,000 a year looks further away than ever, and the EU migration crisis is threatening to turn this into a perfect storm.

    After being closed for almost two years motorists who use Lichfield Trent Valley railway station are now able to park there again.

    London Midland says they've finally restored power to its car park. 

    It was shut a few months after being opened in 2014 while a bridge was demolished.  

  6. 40% of drivers stopped by police over Christmas tested positive for drugspublished at 17:27

    More than 40% of drivers tested positive for drugs after being stopped as part of the West Midlands Police Christmas crackdown. 

    Of the 130 motorists stopped 54 tested positive. 

    The youngest who tested positive for alcohol was 18 and the oldest 75.

    Walsall's away match with Fleetwood Town has been rearranged for Tuesday, 15 March (kick-off 19:45). 

    The Saddlers were due to play Fleetwood last night but the match was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Highbury Stadium.

    Read more on BBC Sport as Wolves confirm that they are "in advanced discussions with Cardiff" after making a bid for striker Joe Mason.

    A senior Cardiff source indicated last week that they would want "at least £5m or £6m" for the player.

    Mason, 24, has scored 22 goals in 60 league starts since joining Cardiff from Plymouth in 2011 for £250,000.

    A jury has been sent out to consider verdicts in the trial of a Birmingham mother accused of heading to Syria with her toddler son to join the so-called Islamic State (IS).

    Tareena Shakil has admitted travelling to the country but denies becoming a member of IS. 

    The 26-year-old also denies encouraging acts of terror on Twitter.

    A van used for selling pies which was stolen from Birmingham at the weekend has been found in a car park.

    The van called Claude is used by a company called Pietanic.

    West Midlands Police said the van had been seized after it was discovered in a pub car park in Rugby.

    Police say forensics are now being carried out.

  13. Statues of young meningitis survivors to feature at RHS Chelseapublished at 14:18

    A five-year-old from Solihull is one of four young meningitis survivors who will be portrayed as statues for a garden at Chelsea Flower Show.

    Charity Meningitis Now is creating a Futures Garden inspired by the bravery of families affected by the disease.

    Liam Doyle, from Earlswood, caught bacterial meningitis in July 2010 at just seven weeks old and went on to contract it twice more.

    The son of ex-Birmingham City goalkeeper Colin Doyle now suffers deafness, epilepsy and ataxia.
