  2. Fatal collision shuts M6 motorwaypublished at 08:26 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2016

    A fatal crash between a lorry and a car in the early hours of the morning has closed the northbound M6 in Birmingham and two lanes of the southbound carriageway.

    West Midlands Police tweeted, external earlier that it hoped it would reopen the M6 by 07:30 but delays have persisted as the barriers repairs continued.  

    Queues are back to junction 10 at Wolverhampton on the southbound carriageway, tailing back from J6 for Spaghetti Junction (pictured).

    The M6 is closed northbound as are two lanes southbound between J5, A452 (Castle Bromwich) and J6 A38(M) Spaghetti Junction, because of a serious crash involving a car and a lorry. 

    Diversions are in operation - drivers are advised to follow the hollow circle diversion symbols. 

    Travel time is at least 120 minutes.

  4. Fatal crash causes long M6 delays near Birminghampublished at 08:03 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2016

    Drivers are being warned about long delays after part of the M6 in Birmingham was closed due to a fatal crash involving a lorry and a car.

    The northbound carriageway was shut at about 02:00 after the collision between junctions five at Castle Bromwich and six at Spaghetti Junction.

    Two lanes are also currently closed on the southbound carriageway between junctions six and five.

    Diversions have been set up but motorists are being warned of delays of up to 60 to 90 minutes.
