    A woman has fallen about 5 metres (15ft) down a lift shaft in a coffee shop in Solihull.

    West Midlands Fire Service says a rescue operation is under way at Starbucks on Solihull high street, calling it a "difficult extrication". 

    Paramedics are treating the woman with pain relief for "potential broken bones".

  3. Search continues for 'vulnerable' man missing from secure unitpublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 31 March 2016

    West Midlands Police has released new images of a man missing from a secure unit in Birmingham, external.

    James Pinsent, 43, has been missing since Monday 21 March when he was seen entering a bank in Lichfield. 

    Police, who say they are worried about his safety, believe Mr Pinsent may be trying to leave the country and is believed to have links to Wolverhampton, Northamptonshire, Staffordshire and Uttoxeter.

    He is described as white, 6ft 2ins, clean shaven and wearing an olive jacket, beige jumper and jeans. He is carrying two large black duffle bags and is likely to be using trains and taxis as a mode of transport.

    A Birmingham academy chain must pay back more than £100,000 in government funding.

    Perry Beeches Academy Trust claimed about £2.8m from the Education Funding Agency for free school meals but only kept limited records of its entitlements.

    The trust said it was a genuine administrative error.

    The ex-chairman of Aston Villa says he will not give any indication as to who he would like to see become the next manager.

    Sir Doug Ellis told BBC Sport that he would not disclose his preference "because I would be breaking my promise of not interfering".

    Investigations are under way into the type of pills put into corned beef and thrown over a dog owner's fence. 

    Claire Smith says the tablets were discovered , externalin her back garden when one of her dogs retrieved the food on Tuesday morning. 

    Police in South Staffordshire have launched an investigation and it is not yet known whether the act was malicious.

  10. Stolen bus brought to a stop by police stinger five hours after taken from yardpublished at 10:13 British Summer Time 31 March 2016

    A stolen bus was being driven around the West Midlands in the early hours this morning - five hours after being taken in the Black Country.

    The single decker was stolen from a yard in The Paddock, Coseley, about 21:40 last night. It was then driven around and, according to Central Motorway Police, spotted some time after 02:00 in Albrighton, Shropshire.

    It was stopped by a police stinger in Foundry Street, Coseley, at about 03:00.

    Two men aged 20 and 39 were arrested., external A third detained man has refused to give his details to officers.  

  11. Health provider contract 'extortionate'published at 09:27 British Summer Time 31 March 2016

    A health company received more than £165,000 from the NHS in the West Midlands despite carrying out one GP callout in five months, it has emerged.

    Primecare, which has been employed by NHS England since July last year, also made 18 phone consultations with patients up to November.

    Coventry GP Dr Grant Ingrams, who says he is leaving the West Midlands because of workload and lack of resources, described the figure as "extortionate".

  13. Three people arrested after bus stolen overnightpublished at 08:49 British Summer Time 31 March 2016

    Three people have been arrested after a bus was stolen in Birmingham earlier this morning.

    Central Motorway Police says a chase with the bus, stolen in the early hours, ended after a "successful stinger deployment".

    The bus was spotted on the A41 at Albrighton at about 02:50, with the police pursuit ending on Southall Cresent in Coseley.

    Former Aston Villa chairman Sir Doug Ellis does not regret selling the Premier League club to Randy Lerner and says the American is a "good man".

    Villa are bottom of the table, 12 points from safety with seven games left, and without a manager after parting company with Remi Garde.

    Lerner, who bought the club from Ellis in 2006, has been criticised for not backing Garde in the transfer market.

    But Ellis said Lerner put his "money where his mouth is" by buying the club.

    Birmingham has been ranked as England's "crash for cash" capital.

    The second city is the number one location where motorists are most likely to fall victim to the scam, according to an insurance group.

    Aviva said 25% of its 3,000 crash for cash claims last year were in Birmingham, in particular the B11 area of Sparkbrook, Sparkhill and Tyseley.

    The figures include induced accidents, where innocent motorists are targeted, as well as staged accidents, when two damaged cars are brought together to make it look like an accident.
