Hospitals are hoping less urgent patients will once again stay away as junior doctors in England take part in their second all-out strike in protest at the imposition of a new contract.

Medics walked out of both emergency and routine care at 08:00 BST and will not return until 17:00 BST.

This follows Tuesday's stoppage which many hospitals said they coped well with after being quieter than expected.

NHS bosses have urged patients to continue to use services "wisely".
