  1. Construction workers win payouts for 'blacklisting'published at 13:16 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Workers who say they were blacklisted by construction companies have won millions in compensation after a long-running legal battle. 

    The scandal came to light in 2009 following a raid by the information commissioner's office on an organisation called The Consulting Association, which was based in Droitwich. 

    The union Unite has reached a settlement with construction firms that will mean 256 workers share more than £10m in compensation.

    Some claim they were refused work because of their political beliefs or union activities.

  4. Connor Smith shooting: Two guilty of killing teenagerpublished at 12:09 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Two men have been found guilty of shooting dead a teenager in Birmingham in a row over a £50 bag of cannabis.

    A jury found Leon Frye guilty of murdering Connor Smith and Philip Baillie guilty of manslaughter.

    A third man, Marcus Jones, 27, of Gildas Avenue, was found not guilty of all charges at Birmingham Crown Court.

  6. Aldridge woman missing for weekspublished at 11:29 British Summer Time 9 May 2016

    Police say they are becoming "desperately concerned" for the welfare of an Aldridge woman missing for almost four weeks. 

    Ruth Smith, aged 42, was last seen leaving her home on Friday 15 April. 

    The West Midlands force thinks local people could hold the key to finding her and are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or spoken to her.

    Officers said she was regularly spotted in and around Aldridge, particularly at the library and The Croft. She is also a keen walker, who crosses fields near to Longwood Road, Aldridge Cricket Club, Aldridge Airport, Walsall Arboretum and Hobs Hole Lane.

    Birmingham City have improved according to boss Gary Rowett, despite finishing in the same place and on the same points as last season. 

    They ended their Championship campaign on Saturday in 10th with 63 points.

    Speaking to us after their final game - a 1-1 draw at Cardiff - Rowett said they had competed more this year but needed to learn to win when they were not playing at their best.

    New penalties are being brought in today to help prevent fly-tipping.

    Here in the West Midlands there were fewer than 2,000 prosecutions last year. 

    Now offenders will be fined £400 if they are caught dumping rubbish. 

    The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs says 900,000 incidents were dealt with in England in 2014-15.

    The BBC has learned that HS2 Ltd is moving its headquarters to Birmingham. 

    The company, which is in charge of developing the proposed high speed rail line between London and the Midlands, already has a construction office in the city. 

    It's now consulting staff in London on relocation plans.

    The news comes as work starts in Birmingham to build the National College for High Speed Rail which will train the engineers needed to construct and operate the line.

    A man is in a critical condition after being stabbed several times getting off a Birmingham bus.

    It happened as two men became involved in an argument as they disembarked in Vyse Street, in the city's Jewellery Quarter, on Saturday evening, West Midlands Police said.
