    A clean-up operation has begun after yesterday's flooding at a Birmingham school.

    Lea Forest Primary Academy, in Kitts Green, Birmingham, was forced to close today because of the effects.

    The water reached depths of up to four inches inside the school. Outside it was nearly a foot deep.

    Tornado-like shapes called funnel clouds have been forming in skies above the West Midlands.

    These images were captured yesterday by Matthew Lee Hancox in Shrewsbury, Helen Vann in north Rugby and Robert Brooker, east of Coventry. And earlier today, Jason Mason Burns, near Droitwich, spotted the same meteorological phenomenon.

  6. Kitten 'travels 300 miles' in Navy pilot's car bumperpublished at 13:14 British Summer Time 15 June 2016

    A kitten thought to have climbed inside a car bumper at Birmingham Airport was discovered after a 300-mile journey.

    Royal Navy pilot Lt Nick Grimmer heard the kitten meowing, a day after travelling from Birmingham to the Royal Naval Air Station in Culdrose.

    He dismantled the car with colleagues and found the kitten hiding inside the bumper of his BMW.

    The kitten has been named Tigger by the pilot's colleagues in the 814 Naval Air Squadron, known as the Flying Tigers.

    A flood warning has been issued for the River Penk in Penkridge, South Staffordshire, by the Environment Agency, external.

    It said over the past 24 hours, there had been 24mm of rainfall.

    The heavy rain means the public car park at the Edgbaston Priory Club is closed on what should be the third day of the Aegon Classic.

    Tennis fans are being urged to use public transport or taxis, which are still able to drop passengers off outside the club's main entrance in Sir Harry's Road.

    Highways workers from Amey, which works for Birmingham City Council, have been out to the Birchfield underpass at Perry Barr after delays on the carriageway earlier.

    They said pumps on the A34 Walsall Road appeared "to all be working" and it appeared "simply to be volume of water" behind the problems.

    There is flooding on the Beacon Road in Barr Beacon at the junction with Bridle Lane and on Edgbaston Park Road in Edgbaston. Drivers are warned to approach with care.

    Monmouth Drive in Sutton Coldfield is partially blocked between the junction with Chester Road North and the Somerville Road junction because of a loose manhole cover.

    Birmingham City Council has let us know of a further school closure.

    Queensbury school in Erdington is closed today due to electrical damage. It's expected to re-open tomorrow.

    Householders and businesses across Birmingham and the Black Country are counting the cost of further flash flooding this morning. 

    Heavy rain yesterday afternoon brought parts of the rail and road network to a standstill. 

    Heartlands Hospital declared a major incident after 5,000 litres of rain water flooded the A&E department, although the situation was scaled down at 19:00. Meanwhile, parts of the Bullring and Mailbox shopping centres were temporarily closed.

    We know of one Birmingham school that is closed today due to flooding and one West Bromwich school which is partially closed.

    Lea Forest Primary in Kitts Green is completely closed, while The Phoenix Collegiate is closed to Year 7, 8 and 9 students. The school, which had to partially close during last week's flash floods, is open as normal to other year groups and staff.
