    More than 70 firefighters were sent to Clearwater Industrial Estate, in Wolverhampton yesterday evening.

  6. Watch: Call for legal funding for Birmingham pub bombing families by MPpublished at 17:15 British Summer Time 19 October 2016

    Andy Burnham, the Labour MP for Leigh, has called for legal funding for the families of the Birmingham pub bombing victims, as inquests open soon and West Midlands Police have funding set aside. 

    At Prime Minister's Questions, Theresa May said she and the home secretary are hopeful help will be granted through an "exceptional funds" application which has been made.

    A Staffordshire junior football scheme that started 50 years ago has won the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, external.

    Lads and Dads, external was founded in the county in 1967 by the late Doug Brown, who himself was a former Stoke City physiotherapist and Lord Mayor.

    Every weekend more than 2,500 children play for teams across the county and, in the last 50 years, more than 150,000 youngsters have been involved.

    The Chairman of Staffordshire Lads and Dads, Clive Dean, told BBC Midlands Today he hopes the group's around for at least another 50 years.

    Walsall Council has released details of plans to cut almost £90m from its budget by 2020.

    This is on top of more than £100m that’s been cut since 2010.

    The number of libraries could be reduced from 16 to just one.

    As well as removing funding from the town’s flagship art gallery (pictured), there would also be charges for green waste collections alongside a 12% increase in council tax over the next four years.

    The centre officially opens to the public on Friday, external and those behind it say it'll let people explore "how the practice of remembrance has evolved over time".

    It also hosts films, exhibitions and learning facilities, external and has been paid for through money from donors, individuals, and groups. 

    The 150-acre (61-hectare) site in Alrewas contains more than 300 memorials dedicated to all the armed forces, emergency services and civilians.

  13. Racing team aims to win drivers championshippublished at 15:30 British Summer Time 19 October 2016

    A West Midlands motor racing team is looking to win the F3 Cup driver's championship next year, after narrowly missing out in their debut season.

    The University of Wolverhampton Racing team works out of the new, £10m, Telford Innovation Campus, external and lecturer David Tucker described it as a "proving ground for the drivers" and for the young engineers of the future.

    Driver Shane Kelly missed out on taking the title, external by a single point earlier this month.

    He showed us the car, which the team says won four races and achieved more fastest laps than any other.

  14. Aston Villa: Jack Grealish 'hard done by'published at 15:29 British Summer Time 19 October 2016

    Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce believes England Under-21 international Jack Grealish's three-match ban for violent conduct was on the harsh side.

    Grealish was punished by the Football Association after video evidence showed that his boot made contact with Conor Coady in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Wolves.

    Bruce told BBC WM: "It's something we'll have a conversation about.

    "But I feel he's been a bit hard done by. It's because it's Jack Grealish."

    Grealish apologised with a handshake as the players left the pitch at half-time, which was accepted by Coady, while Bruce dismissed it as "handbags" in his post-match press conference, suggesting that Saturday's match referee David Coote had "got it spot on and handled it well".  

  15. Man, 28, dies from stab injuriespublished at 15:09 British Summer Time 19 October 2016

    A man has died after a stabbing in Birmingham, police say.

    The 28-year-old was dropped off at Heartlands Hospital A&E in a car by a member of the public at around 19:40 with a serious stab wound to the chest.

    West Midlands Police say, external he is believed to have been attacked in the Kingshurst area of Birmingham. 

    A 27-year-old man from Shard End was arrested last night in connection with the incident and is currently being held in police custody.

    A Christmas grotto manufacturer has been identified as one of three businesses ruined by a "severe" fire on an industrial estate.

    More than 70 firefighters were sent to Clearwater Industrial Estate, in Wolverhampton, on Tuesday evening. 

    West Midlands Fire Service said they managed to contain the fire by about 02:00 and stop it spreading to two other businesses.

  17. Pub bombings: Andy Burnham meets victims familiespublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 19 October 2016

    The former shadow home secretary, Andy Burnham, has described the stories of the families who lost loved ones in the Birmingham pub bombings as "harrowing". 

    He met relatives of some of those who died in the 1974 blasts in London yesterday and says he's backing their fight for answers. 

    The families still don't know what kind of financial aid they will have for the fresh inquests, something Andy Burnham says is "disgraceful."

    A Home Office spokesperson said: "It is right that the families bereaved by the Birmingham pub bombings are represented at the forthcoming inquests, and legal aid exceptional funding will enable this. However, it is for the Legal Aid Agency to approve legal aid applications."
