    A consultation exercise is under way over an updated £18m power line scheme between Oswestry and Wem.

    Scottish Power is proposing 1.2km (0.7miles) of underground cable between the Oswestry substation and Round Wood.

    There would then be 21km (13miles) of power lines hung from wooden poles from Round Wood to the substation at Wem.

    A formal planning application for the project is expected to be submitted next year.

    Two men have been attacked on their doorstep in Kidderminster , externalas they tried to stop a gang of masked burglars getting in.

    West Mercia Police says three men, all with their faces covered with scarves, knocked at the door of a house on Wilton Avenue last night and then tried to force their way in.

    The force says one of the victims had his glasses taken and the other suffered a head injury before the trio fled.

    King Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi is the Ooni of Ile-Ife, a revered position among the Yoruba people, Nigeria's second biggest ethnic group of about 35 million.

    The university says he was visiting them today to strengthen ties and to mark the achievements of about 1,000 graduates from the university, external who live in Nigeria.

    A man has been jailed for five years for robbing a 71-year-old at his second-hand furniture shop in Rugby, police said.

    At Warwick Crown Court on Thursday, the Warwickshire force said, John Crisp, 42, of no fixed address, was found guilty of the offence following a three-day trial.

    According to the force, he was one of three to target the premises.

    Seven out of 10 people in the West Midlands arrested for driving while using a mobile phone this year have not been prosecuted.

    That's according to figures released by West Midlands Police, external via the Freedom of Information Act.

    Since March, 862 people have been arrested on suspicion of using a hand-held device behind the wheel, but only 291 have been charged.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service said two cars collided on Sandon Road near the Dog and Doublet pub on Thursday evening.

    It said the man, thought to be in his 50s, was cut free from a damaged vehicle.

    The off-duty employees were driving past and stopped to help before colleagues arrived.

    The ambulance service said the injured man was taken to hospital along with two other patients.

    Tories were defeated by the Green Party in a council by-election.

    Conservatives lost a Herefordshire Council seat in the Bishops Frome & Cradley ward following the resignation of a Tory councillor.

    In an election with a 39.6% turnout, the voting was: Green 471, C 299, LD 251, Lab 19.

    The Citizens Advice Bureau in Crewe is asking for help to find a new home.

    It's moving out of the office it currently uses near the bus station because of plans to regenerate the town centre.

    The charity, which offers help to people in debt, says it helps about 3,000 people every year.

    Bosses hope architects, solicitors and builders will donate their time as they search for a new location.

    Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland could be close to returning to training after breaking his finger on England duty earlier this month.

    The 24-year-old suffered the injury in training ahead of England's friendlies with Germany and Brazil and was ruled out for between four and six weeks.

    Today at a press conference, his manager Mark Hughes said he was returning to fitness.
