As Aga workers finished for the last time today at the Coalbrookdale foundry, the closure of the site's been called a "big blow" to the area.

The US firm that took over Aga says the official shutdown will be at the end of the month and is being done because the factory is not cost effective.

  6. Balloonist offers help to raise missing submarinepublished at 17:12 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2017

Balloonist Per Lindstrand says he would be willing and able to lift the Argentine submarine ARA San Juan if a rescue bid turns into a salvage operation.

This afternoon, the Argentine navy said an event consistent with an explosion was recorded near where the submarine disappeared last week with 44 crew on board.

Lindstrand was approached to lift the Russian submarine the Kursk in 2000 after it suffered a series of explosions, although the salvage operation eventually went to another firm.

Lindstrand, based in Oswestry, told the BBC the Argentine submarine was much smaller than the Kursk and he was confident he would be able to lift it to the surface if it has become stricken on the seabed.

He says he is willing to help if the worst case scenario occurs, but has not yet been contacted by the Argentine navy.

    Quote Message

We would attach a number of lift balloons along the submarine, attached by divers… and the submarine would slowly rise up to the surface. It is the same thing we proposed with the Kursk. This is a baby compared to the Kursk."
