  5. Channel 4 'to move hundreds of staff but keep London HQ'published at 18:54 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2018

    The Guardian newspaper is reporting, external that Channel 4 has reached a deal with the government to move hundreds of staff out of London, but keep its headquarters in Victoria.

    The government has been pushing for Channel 4 to relocate a material part of its business to another city, with Birmingham considered the favourite location in the event of a wholesale move.

    KFC has renewed a partnership with its old supplier after a chicken shortage forced it to shut hundreds of outlets last month.

    The fast food giant says the move will see Bidvest supply 350 sites in the north of England, easing pressure on DHL's depot near Rugby.

    At the time, DHL blamed "operational issues" at that warehouse, which it was using for deliveries nationwide.

    Last month, KFC an out of poultry, then gravy, after switching its logistics partner to DHL from Bidvest.

    A giant mechanical puppet is coming to Shropshire's Blists Hill Victorian museum.

    The Man Engine, external stands 11.2m (37ft) tall and weighs nearly 40 tonnes and will be the highlight of events on Sunday 14 April.

    It was built in Cornwall to mark the 10th anniversary of the county’s World Heritage status and is touring venues across the UK to celebrate Britain’s industrial heritage.

    The family of Christopher Colgan, who died after a gunshot wound to the head, said they are, external "more than heartbroken" at his loss.

    The 31-year-old was found critically injured at a property in Parkhouse Drive, Erdington, on Friday.

    In a statement the family said: "Our lives will never be the same and this has left a huge hole in not only our lives but our community too.

    "His daughter is such a daddy's girl and he loved her with his life; his nieces and nephews will miss him dearly.

    "We are more than heartbroken and we love you.".

  9. Firefighter 'saved by his son' after boat capsizespublished at 18:26 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2018

    A 13-year-old boy saved the life of his dad after the pair got into trouble off the coast of Anglesea, the fire service said.

    Joe Rowlands and his father Paul, from Nantwich, were kayaking on 22 February when their boat started taking in water and capsized, forcing them to swim for the shore.

    Paul, a 50-year-old firefighter, said: “Joe said he thought we were going to die and his final wish was a kiss from me. Although I reassured him that we were going to be fine, the thought also crossed my mind and I literally feared for both our lives.”

    Joe was the first to reach land and he dived back into the sea when he saw his father start to lose consciousness and then gave him CPR when he got him to land.

    They then took shelter in a disused tower, originally built for shipwrecked sailors, until the RNLI arrived.

  10. Unclaimed lottery ticket worth £1mpublished at 18:19 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2018

    There's an unclaimed lottery ticket worth £1m in the Stoke-on-Trent area, the National Lottery has said.

    It's one of five Euromillions Millionaire Maker prizes given out on Friday 23 February and the holder has until 22 August to claim their prize.

    If no one comes forward by that time, the money will be given to lottery-funded projects.

    The Lottery says that people who believe they had the winning ticket, which has the code JLVT 94671, but can't find the ticket itself, can make a claim in writing.

    Port Vale's Anthony Kay has returned to training today following a hernia operation.

    Manager Neil Aspin described him as a "professional" who "does all the rehab work properly".

    Elliot Daly makes his first start since returning from injury - alongside James Haskell and Nathan Hughes - as well as Joe Launchbury who'll win his 50th cap.

    England go into the match after a comprehensive defeat in Scotland in their last game, and coach Eddie Jones said: "We want a response from the players this week".

    Customers affected by intermittent water supplies, due to the recent freezing temperatures, will be paid compensation said Severn Trent.

    A payment of £30 will be offered to homes that were without water for more than 12 continuous hours, or for more than 15 hours of intermittent supply.

    Customers across the Midlands were affected, with water bottle stations set up in Birmingham and Solihull after freezing pipes burst.

    Water shortages also affected production at Jaguar Land Rover and Cadbury.

    Plans have been submitted for two new wards at Hereford County Hospital.

    The £15m project would involve knocking down wards built in the 1930s, which were used during the Second World War.

    It's hoped the new wards, which will provide an extra 10 beds, will be ready for their first patients in 2020.

    Shrewsbury Town made a profit of £409,000 over the last 12 months, its annual accounts have revealed.

    The figure is substantially less than the previous year, but the club remains debt-free, with a healthy cash balance of about £1m.

    The reasons for the lower profit include smaller gates during last season's relegation struggle, the purchase and initial renovation of the training ground, and compensation costs paid to Grimsby for bringing manager Paul Hurst to the club.

    However, the club did bring in money from selling land at the stadium to Lidl, and cutting its running costs.

  17. Council considers loaning another £2.3m to hotel developerspublished at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2018

    The company building a new Hilton hotel in Hanley could be loaned an extra £2.3m by Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

    Genr8 had already secured £4.5m from the authority.

  18. Council hands out more than 500 littering finespublished at 17:19 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2018

    More than 700 fines were handed out for littering in Herefordshire and Worcestershire last year, with 558 of those handed out by Worcester City Council.

    Councils across the two counties spent at least £4m on street clearning, litter picking and clearing up fly tipping.

    Alan Feeney, the Vice Chair of Worcester City Council's Environment Committee, said he thought it was because the city had a large population and because they have "a team that are quite hot on picking up on it".
