    New speed cameras have returned to two roads in Coventry.

    The city council's cabinet met yesterday to finalise the plans for average speed cameras in Ansty Road and London Road.

    A report by the authority says, external while the total number of accidents in Coventry's falling, the number of people killed or seriously hurt on main roads is rising.

    It goes on to say it anticipates the maintenance of the cameras will be paid for by a share of the revenue from speed awareness course fees.

    A man's appeared in court this morning charged with the murder of his grandmother, who was stabbed to death at her home.

    Anne James, 74, was found collapsed at her home in Walsall on 28 February.

    Her grandson Greg Irvin, 25, from Walsall Wood, was charged with her murder and appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

    He's been remanded into custody to reappear at the same court next month.

    Patients and staff have been allowed to return to their ward after a fire at University Hospital Coventry earlier.

    The hospital said the fire was in an outbuilding next to its maternity unit in the west wing.

    West Midlands Fire Service remains at the scene and will be carrying out investigations into the cause of the fire, which was in an extractor flue from a boiler room.

    There could be more snow later in the week for parts of the West Midlands, external.

    The Met Office has a yellow weather warning out for sleet and snow for higher areas and some lower ground from just after midnight tonight, through to 11:00 tomorrow morning.

    The area covered includes large parts of the West Midlands and it says some roads and railways could be disrupted.

    Some parts of Herefordshire are still covered in snow after the last fall.

  7. Hospital says fire was 'small'published at 10:45 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2018

    University Hospital Coventry says the earlier boiler room fire only affected a small number of patients and that there have been no injuries.

    It said the fire was in an outpatient building, adjacent to the west wing of the hospital.

    The evacuated patients were taken to other parts of the hospital.

    A serving West Midlands Police officer's among three men who've been arrested this morning. , external

    The force says the trio have all been detained on suspicion of conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office.

    It says the 38-year-old officer, based at Birmingham East, was arrested at his home by their counter corruption team.

    The other two men, 28 and 32, from Balsall Heath and Perry Barr, along with the officer, are now in custody.

    The boiler room fire at Coventry's University Hospital is thought to be near the mother and baby unit.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service says it has been carrying out evacuations, but nobody has been hurt.

    West Midlands Fire Service says it was called out at about 08:30 and has eight fire engines there, plus a hydraulic platform.

    People are being advised to avoid the area.

    The club says that's mainly down to increased spending on players, their wages, restructuring the club and investment in facilities.

    In the previous financial year, Wolves made a profit of almost £6m and this was their first season without "parachute payments" from the Premier League following relegation in 2012.

    The side are currently top of the Championship by three points as they target a return to the top flight.

    There are two each in Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire with the Environment Agency saying they mean flooding is possible.

    The agency does say river levels are not expected to rise any higher and should, in most cases, fall through today.
