    The family of a six-year-old girl, killed crossing the road, said she was "always happy" and "brought a smile to everybody's face".

    Jannatul Bakya was going to prayers at a local mosque with her father when she was struck by a car on Oldbury Road, Smethwick.

    It happened on Saturday night.

    A man, 27, and woman, 26, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and released under investigation, West Midlands Police said.

    One person died in a collision between two lorries and a van at junction five on Monday afternoon.

    The northbound carriageway opened at 06:00, said Highways England.

    A taxi driver's been left with injuries to his ear after he was attacked in Warwick earlier this morning.

    Police say he was targeted by two men, external after dropping them off in Exham Close just before 04:00 after picking them up in Charles Gardner Road in Leamington.

    The pair who attacked him left without taking anything.

    Funding of £4.1m has been given to schemes at the Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) to help improve the safety of driverless cars.

    WMG, external is an engineering and technology research body based at the University of Warwick. It said it was hoping to "combine simulation with safety".

    The projects were two of six Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV) projects to receive funding announced by transport minister Jesse Norman on a visit to the university today.

    At the event, Mr Norman said: “We are beginning to experience profound change in how we move people, goods and services around the UK’s cities, towns and countryside."

    The M5 in Worcestershire remains closed near Droitwich after a crash involving two lorries and a van.

    Emergency services remain between junction 5-4a which is closed to all vehicles.

    Highways England advises that it will be closed into this evening, external, with diversions available on surrounding routes. Tailbacks on the M5 are said to be more than seven-miles long.

    Two plumbers from Birmingham who were jailed for conning customers have been ordered to pay back thousands or face returning to prison.

    Staffordshire County Council says they targeted mainly older people, and in one case, more than £10,000 was charged for a job that should've cost just over £2,000.

    The pair have been ordered to pay back a total of £77,000 to their victims within the next three months or face nine months in prison.
