    Train passengers are being urged to find alternative routes this evening if they were planning to use the Cross City railway line between Birmingham New Street and Bromsgrove.

    The line's still closed after two trees fell in succession yesterday on to the line, damaging overhead power lines,, external West Midlands Railway says.

    The operator says engineers are still trying to work out what caused the trees to fall but adds that the embankment's very wet and that may have been the issue.

    The daughter of a Stoke City player, who died at the age of 42 in 2013, says people still send her family messages of love and support in his memory.

    Paul Ware had been in remission following treatment for a brain tumour, but was taken ill again and died.

    He played 141 times during six years at Stoke and helped Lou Macari's side win the Football League Trophy at Wembley in 1992, as well as promotion a year later.

    Since his death, his daughter Amy Ware's told BBC Radio Stoke people in Stoke-on-Trent still send them support and it helps keep her family going.

  3. Westminster suspect quizzed over attempted murderpublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 15 August 2018

    A 29-year-old man from Birmingham arrested in connection with the car crash outside Parliament is now being investigated for attempted murder, according to Scotland Yard.

    Salih Khater, a UK citizen, but is originally from Sudan, was detained yesterday on suspicion of terrorism.

    Here is what we know so far:

    • There are unconfirmed indications that he may have spent some time in Libya between 2008 and 2010.
    • He came to Britain in 2010 as a refugee and did an English language course in Birmingham.
    • He then possibly worked as a security guard before taking a Diploma in Science between 2014 and 2017.
    • The last course he did was in accountancy at Coventry University.

    Within the last two years he became a British citizen.

    Police are trying to work out why he apparently deliberately drove a car into the security barriers round Parliament, injuring three cyclists.

    His brother Abdullah Khater told the BBC that the family was in a state of shock.

    He said Salih was a normal person and they had seen no sign of him being an extremist.

    A bridge that was only built last year to replace an 18th Century one that collapsed is going to be shut for two nights after being hit by a vehicle.

    Back in 2016, the Grade II-listed Eastham Bridge, in Worcestershire, fell apart and its apex plunged into the River Teme as a school minibus attempted to cross.

    A new £2m bridge near Tenbury Wells opened to traffic in April 2017.

    But today, Worcestershire County Council says it'll be closed tonight and tomorrow night f, externalor "minor repairs".

  5. Another man arrested as part of drugs crackdownpublished at 16:16 British Summer Time 15 August 2018

    A seventh man has been arrested in Rugby as part of a crackdown on drug dealing in the local area.

    Police in Warwickshire say, external they arrested a 30-year-old man at a property on Wentworth Road in Rugby, as part of Project Palladium this morning.

    The man's been questioned on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A drugs.

    Officers say one man has been charged as part of the on-going investigation.

  7. Cross City railway line remains closedpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 15 August 2018

    The Cross City railway line between Birmingham New Street, Longbridge, Redditch and Bromsgrove remains closed.

    West Midlands Railway this morning said the line would reopen at midday, but has since apologised on Twitter saying Network Rail engineers remain on site.

    The line closed after a landslip and fallen trees on the track.

    The train operator says, external tickets are still being accepted on Network West Midlands bus routes.

    Surveys from the air have revealed Neolithic ceremonial monuments, Iron Age settlements, square burial mounds and a Roman farm.

    "Persistent and aggressive" begging could be banned from a town centre if people feel it's on the increase.

    Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough councillors have already agreed the ban in principle but said it has to go to a six-week public consultation, which is now starting., external

    Under the plans, the issue would be added as another condition to a current Public Space Protection Order, which already prohibits things like street drinking and car cruising.

    The local authority says it believes there has been a rise in persistent and aggressive begging in the last year.

    Anyone caught breaching the order would face an automatic £100 fine.
