Four children have been placed into foster care in Leicester because of the level of "antipathy and conflict" between their separated parents.

The decision to put the children into care was made two years ago. The father made an appeal at a private family court hearing in Worcester last month but the High Court judge refused to reverse his decision.

The judge said the man had "deeply-held" views about the children's mother and had at one stage hired a private detective to "undertake surveillance" of her.

Mr Justice Keehan said placing such relatively young children into long-term foster care was "extremely unusual" but he had no doubt they would suffer "greater emotional harm" if they lived with either their mother or father.
