Thousands of names of the fallen during World War One who came from Herefordshire are going to be read out at Hereford Cathedral next month.
With the centenary of the end of the conflict approaching, the county council says around 500 names will be read out across six days, building up to 11 November., external
The cathedral says the service is open to all and will be include family members related to those who died, were injured or served during the war.
A man's been jailed after stabbing another man repeatedly in what police say was a row over payment for a coat., external
Officers say Graham Whitehurst went to a flat on Selwyn Street, Stoke-on-Trent, in February and demanded cash from those inside for the clothing.
He'd threatened them with a knife, left and then returned "wearing an old man's face mask" and stabbed the victim after he confronted him about "threatening women with knives".
Whitehurst, 35, from Selwyn Street, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and possessing a bladed article.
He was jailed for a total of nine years at Wolverhampton Crown Court today and also given a further five years to serve on licence.
A council spokesman said the scheme will help "address a projected in-year overspend of £5 million".
