    Coventry City Council says it is "working closely" with home care provider Allied Healthcare to "minimise disruption to their customers during the period of transition they are currently going through."

    The company, which provides care for hundreds of people across the West Midlands, is in the process of transferring all its contracts to other providers after a warning from regulators that it is facing financial difficulties.

    Coventry City Council said Allied Allied provides approximately 900 hours per week "across a range of city council-funded and private clients" and added: "Our top priority is to ensure continuity of care.”

    A raft of new parking measures have been proposed for Digbeth and the Irish Quarter in Birmingham.

    The city council has listed a number of restrictions including no waiting areas, resident and business permit bays, and car club bays.

    It also wants to amend existing loading restrictions on a section of High Street Deritend between Floodgate Street and Heath Mill Lane.

    A public consultation, external was launched earlier this month and runs until Tuesday, 20 November.

    Telford Tigers will be renewing their rivalry with Hull Pirates on Sunday.

    The two former EPL sides played a memorable play-off semi-final last season, which the Tigers eventually won 9-8 on aggregate after a goal in overtime.

    Tigers head coach Tom Watkins said their opponents have "a lot of talent in their line up", especially in defence and in goal.

    Coventry Blaze are also in action this weekend, against the two sides propping up the bottom of the Elite League table - Dundee Stars and Milton Keynes Lightning.

    Solihull Barons have just one game, away to Blackburn Hawks.

  6. Indian restaurant owners jailed for 'cooking the books'published at 16:54 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2018

    Two Indian restaurant owners have been jailed for not paying their taxes.

    Mizanur Rahman (below left), 44, and 45-year-old Sadiqur Rahman (below right), both from Wednesbury, had both previously pleaded guilty to cheating the public revenue and under-declaring their income.

    They were also disqualified from acting as directors for seven years at Birmingham Crown Court.

    Two other men, 41-year-old Abdul Kamal from West Bromwich (below left) and 48-year-old Mohammed Sharif Uddin from Wednesbury (below right) were given two-year sentences, suspended for two years, and five-year bans after pleading guilty to the same charges.

    HM Revenue and Customs said the men lied about takings to evade more than £500,000 in tax at their Panache restaurants and stole another £295,000 in tax credits by lying about their income.

    It said the men had also "pocketed" tips meant for staff.

    HMRC has recovered more than £538,000 so far.

    A man's been arrested on suspicion of sex trafficking after a member of the public alerted police to a suspicious vehicle in Coventry.

    A search of the car, parked in Canterbury Street, near Kildale Close, Hillfields, uncovered three knives, an axe and two identity cards belonging to eastern European women.

    The 39-year-old from Romania was arrested on suspicion of possessing offensive weapons and trafficking for sexual exploitation.

    He remains in police custody for questioning while the force makes enquiries with Europol to try and trace the two women whose cards were recovered, said West Midlands Police.

    The Birmingham Royal Ballet and Birmingham Hippodrome are trying to block a strip club from reopening.

    Scarlets, based at the Horse Fair in the city centre, stopped trading in April, but is applying to renew its sexual entertainment venue licence, in the hope of reopening later this month.

    Birmingham Royal Ballet, which opposed the strip club opening in 2011, said it was not appropriate to have it nearby, especially as children came to visit the ballet.

    Peter Evans, commercial director at the Hippodrome, echoed the view saying the club was not the "right image for a modern and forward thinking city".

    Birmingham City Council will hold a licensing hearing on 21 November.

  10. Allied Healthcare: Company will continue to 'trade safely'published at 16:20 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2018

    Home care provider Allied Healthcare said it would continue to "trade safely" while the process of transferring contracts is under way, enabling it to deliver "safe continuity of care".

    The company said a warning by the regulator, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) saying it has serious doubts about the future of the company, had "intensified the impact of the challenging environment within which we operate".

    The CQC said the Staffordshire-based provider had "every opportunity to confirm a realistically backed plan" and had "failed to do so".

    "A short-term extension of the existing lending facility should also help support an orderly transfer of local authority care contracts to alternative providers," it said.

    Three of the events held in Telford this year to celebrate the town's 50th anniversary are going to return next year.

    Telford and Wrekin Council said the St George's Day and balloon fiesta events attracted more than 40,000 people and Telford's Got Talent attracted dozens of entries.

    St George's Day will be held in the town park in April, with the balloons returning on 11 and 12 May.

    Telford's Got Talent will be held at Oakengates Theatre.

    Police say break-ins at two homes in Staffordshire earlier this week may have been linked.

    A man with a torch forced his way into a home in Essington at 20:30 on Tuesday and fled with three others in hooded tops when they were disturbed by the occupant.

    Just 30 minutes later, Staffordshire Police say they were called to say a man had entered the home of an 90-year-old in Great Wyrley and threatened him with a screwdriver while the other searched the property.

    The force said they left empty handed and the man was shaken but unharmed.

    It is hoping the CCTV picture (above) may help identify the burglar.

    A company providing home care and other support services for thousands of older and disabled people across the West Midlands has announced it will be transferring all of its contracts to other providers.

    Staffordshire-based Allied Healthcare said a warning by the regulator it was facing financial difficulties led to local authorities withdrawing contracts.

    The company said it was working closely with councils to ensure there was no disruption to the continuity of care for the people they support.

    Allied Healthcare announced earlier this year it was struggling with debts, blaming low fees paid by councils, but it did manage to restructure its finances on that occasion.

    Police in the West Midlands are to review how they carry out searches for missing people following "confusion" in the hunt for a missing student.

    Ozeivo Akerele, 24, failed to return home from a night out in Coventry on 31 January 2015, but his body wasn't found until more than a year later.

    A group of children eventually discovered it on waste ground in Foleshill in April 2016, close to where police had originally been searching.

    An investigation by watchdog the Independent Office for Police Conduct highlighted problems in record keeping and communication during the search.

    The report states, however, that the police searches were carried out "in line with policy" and there was no indication that any officer or member of staff had a case to answer for misconduct".

    The live Colt .44 was found in Columbia Crescent, Bushbury on Thursday, and will now be forensically tested, said West Midlands Police.
