The MP for Kenilworth and Southam urges MPs to take the time to consider the deal properly and "think about what they believe to be in the best interests in the country... not just in isolation but in comparison to what the other realistic options are".

Speaking to BBC Radio 4's The World At One, he says he regrets that Dominic Raab felt the need to resign from his role as Brexit Secretary.

He said he disagreed with the suggestion that the deal risked the "integrity of the United Kingdom" and gave the EU a veto over the UK's "ability to exit".

Heavy duty security barriers, first introduced in 2017 following a terror attack at a Berlin Christmas market, are also in use throughout the city centre.

Despite the precautions, Mr Jamieson said levels of crime were low at last year's event and he expected a similar situation this year.

British Transport Police said extra armed officers would be on patrol at train and tram stations, while more plain clothes officers and dogs would also be on duty.
