    The Pandas4Pandas initiative is to help officers comfort children in distressing situations.

    The "trauma teddies" have been knitted by volunteers as part of the scheme, which was first launched in Cheshire.

    The Mayor of the West Midlands has paid tribute to the leader of Wolverhampton City Council who said he plans to step down after 15 years in the role.

    Councillor Roger Lawrence was first elected as a councillor in 1983 before later taking up the leadership.

    He said he would not be putting his name forward in the leadership elections in May, but would serve as a ward councillor for another year.

    Andy Street tweeted, external: "To say he had been an important part of the economic success story in the West Midlands would be an understatement.

    "His drive and vision in helping create direction for our region's transport plans after decades of underinvestment is something we should be grateful for."

    There's queuing traffic back to J11 on the southbound carriageway and the northbound traffic is back to J7 for Great Barr.

    A woman who was targeted by students involved in group chat that threatened rape said she felt "terrified" at the prospect of seeing the boys.

    Two students banned from the University of Warwick for 10 years for their involvement will be allowed to return later this year, it has emerged.

    She said she felt "let down and betrayed" by the university.

    The university said it had reduced the length of their bans to one year after they appealed and they were unable to comment on individual disciplinary cases.

    A Shropshire school has been forced to close, because of a contaminated water supply.

    Dave Tinker, head teacher at Wistanstow Primary School, near Craven Arms, Shropshire, said it's not safe to drink, cook or wash with it.

    Severn Trent Water is investigating the source of the contamination and believes it was caused by "an unauthorised connection from a private water supply", which has now been disconnected from its network.

    It said it had offered bottled water to the school and a nearby pub, and sent water quality warnings to 69 customers.

    The school hopes to reopen on Monday if tests show the waiter is safe to use again.

  13. 'High level' cyber crime suspects arrestedpublished at 11:26 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2019

    Five suspected members of a "high level" cyber crime gang were arrested during raids at three addresses in Birmingham, and one in Oxfordshire, on Wednesday.

    The suspects, who are believed to have used malware to target businesses, are to be questioned on suspicion of offences including conspiracy to defraud businesses and money laundering.

    Forensic analysis will now take place on devices which were seized during the raids, said the Met, which is working with the National Crime Agency and European Cybercrime Centre on the investigation.

    The arrests had caused "significant disruption" to the organised criminal network, the force added.

    A 60% increase in rough sleeping has been recorded in Birmingham in a year, new government figures show. , external

    The figures provide a snapshot of how many people are sleeping outside on a typical night and showed 91 people were in Birmingham last year, up from 57 in 2017.

    In the West Midlands as a whole, there were 420 people sleeping rough, up from 125 - a 42% rise - the report said.

    Rugby in Warwickshire was named as an authority that showed one of the largest increases in homelessness in the country with a rise of 433% - from 6 in 2017 to 32.

    A "significant" quantity of cash has been seized after a warrant was executed at a Warwickshire home.

    A man was arrested at the home in Acacia Crescent, Bedworth, police said, on suspicion of money laundering on Wednesday morning.

    The 34-year-old has been released under investigation, said Warwickshire Police.

    Is this your huge rock? If it is, the National Trust wants you to move it.

    It's been found on the Long Mynd, in Shropshire, and the Trust has put up a notice beside it, saying it must be removed from hillside before the end of today - or it will be broken up by park rangers.

    It's not known how long the rock has been on the Site of Special Scientific Interest, but some have suggested on social media that it has been there as long as 12 months.
