    A man is in hospital in a critical condition after being stabbed at a property in Coventry, police say.

    The 36-year-old was found with a serious injury to his chest after officers were called to a house in Sedgemoor Road in the Whitley area of the city.

    A 37-year-old man, who is understood to be known to the victim, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of wounding and remains in police custody.

    Officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

    At its height more than 100 firefighters were called to tackle the blaze, which is now under control.

    When Ofsted last inspected children's services in Stoke-on-Trent in 2015, they said leadership and management of the team was one area that needed work.

    In their latest inspection this February into the same services at the city council,, external they say leaders and managers "have failed on the most basic of levels" to protect children.

    They go on to say caseloads are too high for social workers and management had an "overoptimistic view" of their services, not supported by the evidence of the poor and deteriorating services.

    The inspection report into Stoke-on-Trent City Council's children's services by Ofsted , externalwill make tough reading for the authority today.

    Among the highlights of the highly critical report, which rates the services as inadequate across the board, are:

    • Children are not being protected and "they experience serious and widespread delays in having their needs met"
    • Leaders at the council "have been ineffective in prioritising, challenging and making improvements"
    • Overall, social workers "have caseloads that are too high, the average being over 25 children"
    • "There are widespread and serious failures which leave children at risk of significant harm"
    • Leaders and managers in Stoke-on-Trent "have failed on the most basic of levels to ensure that children are safeguarded"

    A canal close to the site of a severe factory fire in Tyseley is being used to supply fire engines at the site, said the fire service.

    It's to be redeveloped to respond to growing passenger numbers and create links to Birmingham New Street and planned HS2 services at Curzon Street.

    Its concourse will be expanded and two new platforms created.

    This will allow extra services to use the station, as part of plans to increase capacity to and from the East Midlands, Hereford, Worcester and the South West.

    Vulnerable children in Stoke-on-Trent are not being protected, external, according to a damning Ofsted report which has rated the city council as inadequate across the board.

    Inspectors said services "have seriously declined" since their last full inspection in 2015, when they said the authority needed to work on delivering "good care" consistently.

    In this inspection, carried out in February, Ofsted says children are experiencing serious and widespread delays in having their needs met and leaders are ineffective in making improvements.

    The city council says it's taking immediate action, external to make improvements and is "firmly committed" to supporting and protecting children in Stoke-on-Trent.

    Crews are expected to remain at the site of a severe fire that's destroyed a factory in Tyseley for a "good part of the day," said the fire service.

    Station commander Marc Hudson said: “This is a significant fire, the smoke from which can be seen for several miles.

    “People who live or work nearby should keep doors and windows closed as a precaution, and drivers should avoid the area because a number of roads are closed."

    A garden furniture factory has been "totally destroyed" in a fire in Tyseley, Birmingham.

    Crews were initially called at about 05:15 and managed to stop the blaze spreading to neighbouring businesses, said the fire service.

    "There's nothing else we could have done to save it," said Incident commander Neil Griffiths, from West Midlands Fire Service.

    Specialist equipment including hydraulic platforms and a high volume pumping unit were used on the fire, he said.

    A specialist fire investigation team is now at the Hay Hall Road site.

    Flood warnings are still in place across parts of Shropshire, external, with work carried out to put up defence barriers at Bewdley, Worcestershire, and Ironbridge, Shropshire, over the weekend.

    The River Severn in Shrewsbury has seen its highest levels for three years, said the Environment Agency.

    It is expected to peak at Ironbridge later on Monday and in Bewdley on Tuesday.

    It tweeted it was on the site to "ensure any impact on the local environment is minimised".

    A hazardous area response team remains on the site of a large factory fire in Tyseley, Birmingham, said the ambulance service.

    Crews were first called to the site at shortly after 05:30, but have treated no patients.
