    An MP is calling for an independent football regulator in a bid to protect fans from the actions of owners.

    Chris Matheson, Labour MP for Chester, is bringing a 10-minute rule bill before Parliament in a bid to introduce legislation.

    He said fans of clubs like Coventry, Bolton, Bury and Blackpool needed better protection and a platform to air their grievances.

    Mr Matheson told MPs that Coventry City had been "driven into the ground by its owners Sisu," which he said was "answerable to no-one".

    Sisu has previously said the club's ownership of its own stadium was vital for its long-term aspirations.

    Speaking on Monday, its boss Joy Seppala said playing games in Birmingham next season was ultimately due to "circumstances beyond our control" - a position contested by Coventry City Council and Wasps.

    A Staffordshire-based sandwich producer linked to a fatal listeria outbreak is being allowed to restart production, after the Food Standards Agency said it was no longer part of its investigation into the source of the outbreak., external

    The Good Food Chain, which operates from Stone, had withdrawn products and halted production after the outbreak was confirmed earlier this month.

    But today, the agency's said, after extensive testing by Stafford Borough Council, the firm's no longer part of its inquiry and it's focusing on suppliers further up the food supply chain.

    Five people have died after nine cases were confirmed at eight NHS trusts.

    A disabled 16-year-old girl won't be able to go to school, her mother says, because Birmingham City Council has withdrawn funding for the school bus.

    Victoria Leadbetter, who has Down's syndrome, now faces an hour-and-a-half journey on public transport.

    The council says it only funds children after 16 in exceptional circumstances. Her mother says she's legally obliged to send her daughter to school.

    You've been sharing your memories of Black Sabbath after the news that a museum show is celebrating the band and the history of Heavy Metal.

    They were founded in Aston, Birmingham, in 1968 and the exhibition, which opened on Wednesday, marks 50 years of the group.

    On the BBC Midlands Facebook page, Dolores Doris posted, external: "My husband asked me out in 1978 for our first date. He took me to see Black Sabbath at the Odeon, Birmingham. I proposed to him later that year and we have just celebrated 40 years of marriage."

    Maksym Nedvyga wrote, external: "For me, Sabbath is the creator of my favorite music. I was in three shows. Well done all involved in the work on the activities. Sabbath forever in our hearts. Greetings from Ukraine."

    Michael Kirk added, external: "They played in the Birmingham area during the 1960s onwards, such as the Queens Head (Peppers) and Mother's in Erdington, happy days."

    New government advice on teaching LGBT relationships doesn't go far enough, a head teacher at the centre of protests has tweeted.

    The row started in Birmingham in January with parents claiming storybooks used to teach about different families contradicted the Islamic faith.

    Protests were held outside Anderton Park Primary School with campaigners also saying pupils weren't old enough to be taught about LGBT relationships.

    This week, Education Secretary Damien Hinds issued new advice , externalto primary schools which included him saying he "would strongly encourage" schools to teach about same-sex parents.

    But Anderton Park's head teacher Sarah Hewitt-Clarkson tweeted , external that, while Mr Hinds comments were great, "‘strongly encourages’ isn't the same as ‘must’".

  10. PM asked to help with Kerry Foods jobspublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 26 June 2019

    The MP for Burton has asked the prime minister for a cross-party task force to help the workers who are losing their jobs at the Kerry Foods factory in the town.

    About 900 jobs will go when the site closes at the end of August and Andrew Griffiths said efforts should be made to find them new jobs.

    He also wants the site brought back into use as soon as possible.

    A rail-users group has got concerns about the £120m plan to create a direct rail service between Coventry and Leicester, because it misses out Nuneaton.

    Midlands Connect said it would reduce travel times and increase capacity on the line, and it is proposing track improvements, and either a fly-over over the West Coast Main Line or a tunnel under it.

    Mark Whitelegg from the Nuneaton, Bedworth and Hinckley Rail Users Group said he would "question the business case of investment in a dive-under" if it didn't include stops at the three stations it represents.

    The mother of an 18-year-old Coventry boy with special needs is appealing for help in finding him.

    Joshua Worwood was last seen in the Willenhall area, where he goes to school, on Monday afternoon and Rachel Worwood said he was due back at his home at 16:15, but didn't turn up.

    She said he has problems with his speech and can appear nervous if approached.

    Police said they were "growing increasingly concerned for his welfare".

    They said he was thought to have been on board a bus towards Birmingham around 17:30 on Monday evening.

    Dozens of people in the local community and further afield have shared news of Joshua's disappearance in a bid to trace him.
