Good news: Flood waters start to recede.

A Droitwich road was after a large tree fell onto vehicles.

It came down on Victoria Square, leading to St Andrews Road, just after 10:30 BST, Hereford and Worcester Fire Service said.

Crews from the fire service had been helping to make the area safe, isolating the tree light electrics and cordoning off the scene.

Worcestershire County Council said St Andrews Street was fully closed to allow for the removal of the tree.

River levels are likely to remain high for the rest of the week as water continues to work its way down river, the Environment Agency (EA) said.

In Shrewsbury, low level flood barriers are expected to remain up for a number of days but the agency said the levels aren't that unusual for this time of year.

There are no plans to put the barriers up downstream in Ironbridge.

The heavy rain earlier today caused serious problems in places like Worcestershire, where it has disrupted road and rail users.

EA spokesman Dave Thoup said just 30cm (12 inches) of flood water can wash a car away.

And while the next few days are forecast to be dry, Mr Throup said they were expecting more problems at the weekend, with heavy rain forecast again.

The Environment Agency would also be monitoring the impact or Hurricane Lorenzo on the region, he said.

Here we can see the collapsed wall that caused a number of shops to shut in Cheadle earlier today.

The Douglas Macmillan Hospice said rain water had caused rubble to collapse into the back alley behind the shops below.

And here you can see the damage it caused.

The hospice shop said it can't say how long it will take to clear the rubble, which has blocked the rear entrance.

Pennerley in Shropshire has the honour of recording the highest hourly rainfall in the UK today, with 25.6mm (1inch), the Met Office has said.

That part of the county normally averages around 96mm (3.8in) during the whole of October.

The Met Office said the heavy rain was localised and there could have been areas with more rain that didn't have a weather station to record it.

While it looks pretty grim out there at the moment, the rain isn't expected to continue and the Met Office weather warning , externaldoesn't extend beyond today.

But, more heavy rain is forecast for the weekend.

The police have been called out to help a number of stranded motorists across the West Midlands today, including one who turned out to be driving while disqualified.

The Central Motorways Police Group tweeted to say the driver was one of three towed to safety in Birmingham.

The driver attempted to give false details, but was found out by a fingerprint check.

Heavy rain has meant West Mercia Police has been receiving a high number of calls.

People planning to travel by train are being advised to check their timetables, with flooding affecting a number of services.

Some routes, such as the one between Birmingham and Nuneaton have been impassible this afternoon and others are seeing trains running at reduced speeds.

Low-level flood barriers are being erected in Shrewsbury with the River Severn expected to rise in the next 24 hours.

The Environment Agency already has flood warnings for the River Vyrnwy, in north Shropshire and said the flood water is going to be making it's way down-river.

One man has had to be rescued after his car became stuck in flood water in Birmingham.

Crews were called to Cotterills Lane in Washwood Heath just before 13:00.

Crews have also pushed a vehicle out of water in Duddeston Mill Road, Nechells, rescuing two people.

The fire service is reminding drivers not to try to drive through flood water.

Bus services are being diverted away from flood water on Alum Rock Road, Birmingham.

The Douglas Macmillan Hospice has sent us this photo, showing the damage caused by a land slippage near it's shop in Cheadle.

The charity said the slippage, which was caused by heavy rain damaged at least three other nearby shops and that in turn had blocked the fire exit to its own shop.

The Dougie Mac Hospice provides all hospice services free of charge to over 3,000 patients with life-limiting illnesses each year in the North Staffordshire area.

The shop has said the closure could cost the hospice thousands of pounds per week and has asked people to hang on to their donations until it is reopen.

The driver of a car stuck in flood water in Worcestershire had a "very lucky escape", said the fire service.

The vehicle became pinned to the bridge at Shell Ford in Himbleton shortly before 11:00.

The male driver escaped uninjured.

Torrential showers are hitting parts of Worcestershire and Warwickshire, the Met Office says.

A yellow warning for rain is in place until 20:00 with flood alerts and warnings issued across the West Midlands.

Heavy rain has flooded the railway between Narborough and Hinckley, and as a result trains have to run at reduced speed on all lines.

Trains between Birmingham/Nuneaton and Leicester have been cancelled until flood waters reside.

CrossCountry services are expected to be affected until at least 18:00.

Intense rainfall in Worcestershire is causing flash flooding, the city council has said.

A severe weather warning remains in place until 20:00 but after that it should be a cloudy night with some showers and lows of 3C (37F).
