The number of robberies in the West Midlands Police area has risen by 82% over the last three years to 8,918, new figures have revealed.
Within the region, Coventry saw the biggest increase, with a rise of 121%, while Walsall saw it go up by 85%.
The number of burglaries rose by 28% across the region over the same period.
The figures were revealed this week at the force’s Strategic Policing and Crime Board, with the force failing to achieve its goal of seeing a reduction in both robberies and burglaries.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Chief Constable Louisa Rolfe said: "Robbery remains challenging for us. Whilst we record significantly higher levels of robbery than our most similar forces, our charge rate is at least comparable. So we are making significant inroads."

The artist famous for creating the giant knife Angel sculpture has unveiled his latest work, which is intended to highlight the problem of cyber-crime.
Alfie Bradley, who is based at Rednal in Shropshire, said he'd been the victim himself and called the one-metre-high statue Trojan - connecting the Trojan Horse virus with its origins in Greek mythology.
The sculpture is made out of steel rods and steel sheets and Mr Bradley said he hadn't yet decided where it would be displayed.
Mr Bradley has also created a bronze statue of an orangutan standing on a piece of burnt wood, to highlight the loss of their habitats, which are being cut down to make way for palm oil plantations.
He is creating his own sculptures in between working on commissions and said he wants his next big project to be a whirlwind made out of decommissioned guns.
