A Liberal Democrat spokesperson told the BBC: "We have members from a wide range of faith and belief backgrounds, and, being liberals, we believe that we should be tolerant and respectful of those who may not share our views.

"As with other political parties we do not whip our MPs on key matters of conscience and will continue to do so. Unfortunately, in Mr Flello’s case it was his activities on social media, tweeting or re-tweeting items that were well beyond the values of the party."

    Local Democracy Reporting Service

Plans for a 150-bedroom hotel next to Coventry's Ricoh Arena are now expected to be submitted in the new year.

That deadline has expired, but the cabinet member for jobs and regeneration Jim O’Boyle said the lease had now been extended to the end of February, to give Wasps more time to put the application together.

It was originally thought the hotel might be ready for Coventry’s year as the UK City of Culture in 2021, but this now appears unlikely.
