    Worcester Warriors have created an email address, external so that well-wishers can post messages of support for lock Michael Fatialofa.

    He remains in a serious condition at St Mary’s Hospital in London after suffering a neck injury in last weekend's match against Saracens.

    The club also said Michael and his wife, Tatiana, have been overwhelmed by messages of concern from around the world.

    Two people had to be rescued from flood water in Warwickshire overnight.

    The pair were helped from their vehicle in Wellesbourne.

    A property in the area was also flooded where water had run off from fields and overwhelmed drainage ditches, the fire service said.

    One flood warning and several flood alerts remain in place around Warwickshire.

  5. Ex-MP says voters didn't share Labour love for Corbynpublished at 10:26 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2020

    An ex-MP has said Labour lost its seats in Stoke-on-Trent because party members couldn't get voters to share their support of Jeremy Corbyn.

    Charlotte Atkins was Labour's MP in the Staffordshire Moorlands until 2010 and she said: "You had a lot of people that were enthusiastic about the Corbyn project, but I'm not sure how deep it went into communities."

    Ms Atkins also said: "I don't think people thought Labour representatives were listening to what they were saying."

    For the first time ever, all three seats in the city were won by the Conservatives in December's general election.

    The full Moon tonight, which is the first full moon of the year, is called a wolf moon.

    It will look a bit different as the Moon will drift into Earth's shadow and become a wolf moon eclipse, casting an eerie shadow across the Moon.

    BBC Weather Watcher Little Acorns was up early and captured an image of this morning's Moon in Southam, Warwickshire.

  8. Wolves' Cutrone arrives in Italy to complete movepublished at 09:17 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2020

    Wolves striker Patrick Cutrone has flown to Italy to complete a move to Fiorentina.

    The Serie A side tweeted pictures of the 22-year-old arriving in Florence to sign a deal which is believed to be an initial loan, with a view to a more permanent move.

    The Italian joined Wolves in the summer for £16m from AC Milan, scoring 3 goals in 24 appearances.

  9. Acosta starts as director of Birmingham Royal Balletpublished at 08:59 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2020

    World-renowned ballet danger Carlos Acosta has taken up his position as the new director of Birmingham Royal Ballet.

    The Cuban-born dancer and choreographer has previously said he wanted to "reach out to new and more diverse audiences".

    Mr Acosta, born in Havana, was the youngest of 11 children and went on to train at the National Ballet School of Cuba before enjoying a celebrated 30-year career in dance, including 17 years with the Royal Ballet. He was appointed a CBE in 2014.

    During his career he won, among other accolades, an Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance and the Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Award from The Royal Academy of Dance.

    On his first day he tweeted: "Everything is possible".

    Jess Phillips has secured enough support to run in the contest to succeed Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

    The MP for Birmingham Yardley joins Rebecca Long Bailey, Lisa Nandy and Sir Keir Starmer on the ballot paper.

    Ms Phillips has the backing of former Labour ministers Margaret Hodge and Chris Bryant.

    The leadership candidates tweeted to thank the people who had nominated them, with Ms Phillips celebrating the amount she had raised through crowdfunding, adding: "It means so much to be powered by people."

    The new leader and deputy leader will be announced on 4 April.

  11. Flood warning in place as properties affectedpublished at 08:29 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2020

    A flood warning has been issued, external for the River Dene at Walton near Wellesbourne in Warwickshire.

    Flood alerts are also in place for the Avon in Worcestershire, the Frome in Herefordshire, the Lugg south of Leominster and Leam and Itchen in Warwickshire.

    Warwickshire Fire Service said it had received calls overnight to flooding in properties in Stretton on Fosse and Darlingscott.

    Crews had been called to six incidents overnight, it added.

  12. Hospitals benefit from donations of more than £2mpublished at 08:09 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2020

    More than £2m was donated to help improve facilities at the Royal Stoke University Hospital and Stafford’s County Hospital in the last financial year.

    The University Hospitals of North Midlands Trust said more than £1.2m of that was made up of legacies left in wills.

    The money has been used to pay for music and art therapy for children, caps which are used to help cancer patients combat hair loss, an ultra sound scanner for the critical care unit and 50 new wheelchairs, among other things.

  13. Industrial action over bin dispute suspendedpublished at 07:49 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2020

    Industrial action by refuse workers in Sandwell has been put on hold.

    The GMB union said its members were unhappy about being asked to do extra work and it was threatening to "work to rule", meaning some bins might have gone uncollected.

    But an agreement between the unions and Sandwell council's contractor, Serco, has been reached.

    Annette Joyce for Serco said “Given the concerns raised by our employees and the unions this week about the changes to the collection rounds we have agreed to suspend the round changes made in November 2019.

    "We have also agreed to the unions request to revisit work allocations which we will do over the next three months.”

    Stuart Richards from GMB described the move as a "positive step forward" adding "we hope that we are able to work constructively to address concerns of our members.”

  14. Woman 'critical' after hit-and-runpublished at 07:30 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2020

    A woman is in a critical condition she was struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run incident.

    The 40-year-old was struck on College Road in Handsworth Wood, Birmingham, yesterday evening.

    The driver stopped to speak to two male members of the public before getting back into his car and leaving the scene.

    Officers are appealing for the two men to get in touch.
