  3. Thousands call for removal of 'racist' statuepublished at 18:31 British Summer Time 9 June 2020

More than 5,000 people have signed two petitions to remove Shrewsbury's Clive of India statue, following Black Lives Matter protests across the UK.

Campaigners say the statue embodies racism. You can read about Clive's history and more on the row here.

A sum of 1,000 verified signatures is enough for Shropshire Council to consider the proposal, but councillor Andy Boddington has argued that the statue should remain, saying "If we remove the physical evidence of our sometimes brutal history, there is a danger that our past will be buried".

The former leader of neighbouring Telford and Wrekin Council, Kuldip Sahota, who was born in India and had a business in Shrewsbury for 20 years, said when friends came to visit they felt uncomfortable with the statue. He wants it gone.

  4. Crewe are up but Port Vale miss outpublished at 18:12 British Summer Time 9 June 2020

    BBC Sport

Crewe Alexandra will be playing in League One next year after the League Two clubs voted to end their season early amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The final league table was decided on a points-per-game system and because Swindon had a game in hand on Crewe, it means they leapfrog them at the top and are the League Two champions this season.

Port Vale have narrowly missed out on a playoff spot.

When the season ended on 13 March, Port Vale were just outside the playoff places and perhaps hoping a good run-in would help them into the top seven, but they now know they'll be back in League Two next season.

Our parks and nurseries team never cease to amaze with their creativity and resourcefulness. It’s great that we have been able to find a fitting alternative use for the flowers and plants that would have been used at Chelsea – as well as being a way to demonstrate our gratitude, it symbolises our commitment to reuse and recycling wherever possible.
