    Changes to the road layout of Wolverhampton city centre are in place as some shops have reopened.

    Victoria Street has been pedestrianised from its junction at Queen Square to the junction with Bell Street.

    Some pavements have also been widened and a cycle lane introduced to enable social distancing measures.

    Some bus stops have been moved, external and passengers have been reminded that face coverings are now compulsory on all public transport.

    As non-essential retailers reopen across England, questions remain about how shoppers will access toilets as restaurants are still shut and many public facilities remain closed.

    The government has urged councils to open public toilets "wherever possible", and while many have plans in place, there are also areas where facilities will not be available.

    Some councils we've heard from on this are:

    • Birmingham - where toilets will not open until next month
    • Liverpool - where a "limited number" of public loos are available
    • Westminster - where all facilities excluding Broadwick Street and Soho are open
    • York - where all facilities are open

    A spokesman for the Local Government Association said: "Councils will be taking individual local decisions about public toilets based on a risk assessment and whether social distancing measures can be maintained."

    About 100 people were queuing outside the Sports Direct store in Worcester when it reopened this morning.

    Customers waiting for the St Martins Quarter store included plenty of mums who told me they would be looking for children's clothes.

    There were also NHS staff as the shop's offering them a discount today.

    Drivers are being told they might have to find alternative routes in Crewe as most of the shops are reopening at one of the town's main retail centres.

    Cheshire Police said , externalit expects more traffic around the Grand Junction Retail Park which could lead to queues on surrounding roads.

  5. Primark opening prompts queuespublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 15 June 2020

    About 100 people queued outside a Primark store in Stoke-on-Trent, which has opened for the first time since the coronavirus lockdown.

    Primark is reopening all 153 of its stores in England as the government relaxes rules on non-essential stores.

    There are railings around the shop in Hanley.

    People were also seen queuing outside the store in Wolverhampton.

    A cafe's been flooded for the fourth time in four months as flash floods hit Shropshire.

    Heavy rain on Sunday saw Dale End Cafe in Ironbridge, still recovering from floods earlier this year, suffer further.

    Owner Chris Harrison praised , externalthe local community for their help as the waters rose again.

    Elsewhere in the county, two people had to be rescued from a car stuck in flood water in Allscott, Telford,, external and several homes in the area were flooded, the fire service said.

    While a lane on the A5 between Emstrey and Preston Island was shut by police, external for a time on Sunday with surface water making driving conditions "difficult and dangerous".

    The Met Office said, external Shawbury, near Shrewsbury, saw the most rain of anywhere in the UK on Sunday with 31mm.

    Coventry's Primark store is one of 153 opening across England today.

    Ahead of the opening, queues could be seen across the city's Broadgate.

  9. Girl given critical care after four hurt in house firepublished at 11:06 British Summer Time 15 June 2020

    A teenage girl's been badly hurt in a house fire in Redditch.

    She and three others suffered injuries in the blaze on Lilac Close on Sunday morning, the ambulance service said. , external

    It added when staff arrived, the house was "well ablaze".

    A man, a woman and a teenage boy suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital.

    The girl's injuries were described as very serious and she was given critical care on the way to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

    It's the first day non-essential shops can reopen since lockdown began.

    Parts of Staffordshire and Shropshire could suffer flash flooding today due to thunderstorms.

    As well as flooding and transport disruption, it warns buildings could be damaged from lightning strikes.

    New rules are coming in for anyone travelling on public transport in England to wear a face covering from today.

    These members of West Midlands Railways staff were on hand at Worcester Foregate station to hand coverings to anyone who may have forgotten.

    They've so far given out about 50.

    Passengers without a covering will be asked to wear one, or will face being refused on board or fined £100.

  14. Birmingham Primark 'calm' despite queuespublished at 08:42 British Summer Time 15 June 2020

    One of the biggest Primark stores in the country is already drawing in the customers this morning.

    This was the scene in Birmingham earlier as non-essential retailers opened for the first time in almost three months.

    Jaydee Darrock from Studley, West Midlands, was one of the first to go into the city centre store, having queued from 07:00.

    She said the shop had been "calm" after opening at 7:30 - half an hour earlier than planned.

    "They've got hand sanitiser stations when you walk into the store, but then once you're in, it's free-roaming.

    "There's not masses of people - it's quite nice," she added.

    Hundreds are estimated to have queued to get in before opening.
