    Two people remain in a critical condition in hospital following an attack in which a man was killed and seven others injured in incidents across Birmingham, police say.

    The inquest of Jacob Billington who was stabbed to death in Hurst Street, Birmingham, on 6 September, opened today.

    The library intern, 23, originally from Crosby in Merseyside was one of eight people attacked during the early hours of the morning.

    Zephaniah McLeod, 27, of Nately Grove, Selly Oak has appeared in court charged with murder and seven counts of attempted murder, with a trial date set for February 2021.

    A man has been charged with arson following a fire at a block of flats in Coventry.

    The fire was contained to a 14th-floor flat in Wellington Street in Hillfields on Friday.

    Abdu Aden, of Wellington Street, Coventry, has been charged with two counts of arson with intent/recklessness to endanger life.

    He is also charged with possession of a bladed article and is due to appear before Coventry Magistrates' Court.
