    An investigation is under way into the cause of a fire at a derelict building in Walsall last night.

    Firefighters were called to Marsh Lane at about 20:40 and the nearby Crown Lofts apartments were evacuated as a precaution.

    Residents returned to their flats after the fire was extinguished.

    A socially-distanced, candlelight vigil will be held this evening to mark the 40th anniversary of the death of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham.

    It's going to take place at his statue in his home town of Redditch.

    Earlier we reported that a number of workers at Jaguar Land Rover's Solihull plant were self-isolating after 24 of them tested positive for Covid-19.

    The firm has told the BBC seven employees at its Castle Bromwich plant had also tested positive and were self-isolating. Several hundred people work at the site.

    Those who had been in close contact with them have also been told to self-isolate.

    The firm said it had been working with Public Health England and measures to protect staff included temperature checks with thermal cameras, social distancing where possible, face visors and hand sanitising stations.

    Here's some drone footage, supplied by Skynique, of the new fish pass on the River Severn north of Shrewsbury.

    The blocks you can see have been sunk in the channel to break up the flow of the water and make it easier for fish to get up stream.

    A baby rhino at West Midland Safari Park has had his name chosen... by his mum.

    All babies born there this year have been given a name starting with the letter I and keepers narrowed the choices down to a shortlist of two, before giving Seto the final say - and as you can see, she chose Inesh.

    Inesh was born on 8 September and when he's a bit older he will be allowed out into the park with the rest of his family.

  16. Two women seriously injured in crashpublished at 17:35 British Summer Time 24 September 2020

    Two women have been seriously injured in a two-car crash in Southam this afternoon.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service said it was called to Banbury Road at around 13:30 and the driver and passenger had to be cut free before they were taken to hospital.

    The man who was driving the other car had relatively minor injuries and was able to get out of his car himself, the ambulance service said.

  19. Well known Normandy veteran dies aged 97published at 17:22 British Summer Time 24 September 2020

    A Normandy veteran from Wellington in Shropshire who later became a peace campaigner and wrote a series of books has died at the age of 97.

    George Evans taught geography for 40 years and helped liberate the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.

    Mr Evans was involved in securing a patch of land in Wellington to be used as a "peace garden" and was well known for his love of the Wrekin, which he used to climb regularly.

  20. Fish pass created to help endangered fish get up streampublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 24 September 2020

    A fish pass has been created on the River Severn near Worcester, to help fish travel up stream more easily.

    The 100m bypass will allow them to swim up a gradually around the weir at Bevere and help breeds such as the endangered twaite shad.

    The work was done by a partnership made up of the Canal and River Trust, Severn Rivers Trust, Environment Agency and Natural England.

    They said salmon and eel would also benefit from the channel and there are plans to build three others, with money from the national lottery and the European Union.
