  6. Police employee would have been sacked, hearing rulespublished at 18:44 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2020

    A West Mercia Police employee would have been sacked if she hadn't already quit the force, a misconduct hearing has ruled today.

    The hearing found the unnamed member of staff had shared information with a member of the public without any policing purpose and that as a result she was guilty of gross misconduct.

    The woman will also be placed on the College Of Policing Barred List and will not be employable within the UK police service.

    The Herefordshire jockey Hollie Doyle is on the shortlist for the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year award.

    The 24-year-old last month beat her own record for the most winners in a calendar year by a female jockey.

    Doyle also rode a historic double on British Champions Day, became the first woman to ride five winners on the same card and claimed her first victory at Royal Ascot. Doyle was named Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year.

    Aston Villa's match against Newcastle on Friday has been postponed due to "a significant increase in Covid-19 cases", it's been announced.

    Newcastle lodged a request with the Premier League to rearrange the game.

    Several Newcastle players and staff members are self-isolating at home after returning positive test results.

    The club is unable to train and adequately and safely prepare for the match, the Premier League says.

    A body found in the River Wye on Friday has been confirmed by police as that of a man who'd been missing for three weeks - Rok Simsic.

    West Mercia Police said the 33-year-old was last seen in St Owen's Cross, Herefordshire, on 5 November when he told friends he was going wild camping in Symonds Yat.

    His death isn't being treated as suspicious.

    Education has been "completely disrupted" by the sheer scale of Covid absences in some schools in some areas, Ofsted regional bosses have warned.

    The regional directors for the West Midlands and North-West England say the impact of rules around self-isolation has significantly impacted attendance.

    They highlight areas where hundreds of pupils are absent and self-isolating at a time, some again and again.

    It comes days before ministers in England are expected to set out their plans for public exams in the summer of 2021.

    James McNeilly, who oversees West Midlands for Ofsted, meets regularly with groups of head teachers.

    He said: "I had one guy with schools in Dudley and Sandwell. Across three schools, there were 1,000 pupils self-isolating and 14 members of staff self-isolating.

    "And he told me he had dealt with four Covid cases by 10 in the morning.

    "That's the message we are getting about the impact on pupils and teachers."
