The town already has more than 100 gas lamps spread across the area with one said to have been the inspiration for C.S. Lewis's Narnia books.

The Friends of Malvern Railway Group is working with Network Rail on upgrading the Great Malvern station.

Michael Pritchard, from the group, said the proposed lights would not be gas-powered but should still fit in with the town's heritage.

"They will not be gas of course because gas is no longer available or even desirable but they will be LED-powered with modern electronics and I think will look exactly right from outside," he said.

  14. Plan to transform former grazing land into wildlife havenpublished at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2021

    BBC Radio Hereford and Worcester

One hundred acres of farmland on the edge of Hereford could be turned into flood plain meadows if a campaign group is successful.

    The land

The Friends of Bartonsham Meadows group was set up in early 2020 and wants to manage the land in a more environmentally friendly way.

The area it is looking at had been used to graze dairy cows until last year and is currently sub-let for arable farming.

The group is working with Herefordshire Wildlife Trust and will hold an online question and answer session on Thursday. , external

It hopes to be able to take over the lease and install ponds, scrubland and reed beds to encourage more wildlife as well as keeping access for people who use it for walking and running every day.

Ruth Westoby, from the group, says the current mood over climate change chimes with what they want to do.

"What we would like to do here fits with political objectives locally, regionally and nationally and internationally, so this is a really exciting project," she said.

Market Drayton town councillors said they were worried elderly and vulnerable residents were having to travel to Gobowen, Shrewsbury or Telford to receive their jabs.

Councillor David Minnery said: "One property which I can’t identify was put forward but they didn’t like it, so there’s a mad scramble going on to find something more suitable."

The meeting heard several places had not met the right criteria for the NHS but health bosses were looking at options including nearby cottage hospitals.

Mayor Roy Aldcroft added people unable to attend the current vaccine centres did have the option to postpone their jabs until appointments were being offered locally.
