    A woman has been chased by a pig while walking in woods near Hereford.

    West Mercia Police said, external this morning they had a report of the pursuit in Haugh Woods.

    The force added: "At this time we are unsure whether he's taken inspiration from Steve McQueen and planned his great escape or someone has lost him whilst taking him for a walk."

    The pig has been described as pink with brown spots.

    Three new coronavirus testing centres have opened today in Staffordshire after a case of the South African variant was found in Stafford.

    The centres for people without symptoms are in Gnosall, Stone and Eccleshall alongside an existing test site at the Kingston Centre, Staffo

    The borough council said, external more than 1,300 people were tested over the weekend and more than 3,500 have booked a test this week.

    Walsall take on Cheltenham Town in League Two this evening, with Brian Dutton in charge as head coach until the end of the season, following the departure of Darrell Clarke.

    Port Vale have appointed Clarke as their new manager, after a compensation deal was agreed with the Saddlers.

    Walsall go into tonight's game against the automatic promotion contenders in 11th place in the table.

    Kick-off is at 19:00 GMT at the Banks's Stadium.

    Five people have been taken to hospital after a house fire in Stoke-on-Trent.

    Emergency services were called to Standersfoot Place, Chell Heath, at 20:25 GMT on Monday.

    Staffordshire Police said a man, woman and three boys were all conveyed to hospital for checks.

    The fire was extinguished by 03:20 said Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, and an investigation is underway.

    Stoke City are expected to be forced into at least one change for tonight's home game against Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship.

    It's after defender Nathan Collins left the field on a stretcher during Saturday's 4-1 defeat at Norwich.

    Kick-off is at 19:00 GMT at the Bet365 Stadium.

    Meanwhile, Stoke's James McClean has had to endure "nine years of constant abuse" since moving to England, says his wife Erin McClean.

    The Republic of Ireland winger, 31, this week shared a direct Instagram message that threatened to set his family home on fire, in a string of abusive messages.

    Two men have been charged after a healthcare worker was pulled from her car and threatened with a knife in a car-jacking.

    West Midlands Police said they were called to reports of a woman being pulled from her Ford Focus and threatened with a knife in New Square car park in West Bromwich on Friday.

    The car was later spotted near Handsworth.

    One of the men, a 33-year-old of no fixed address, was detained and later charged with robbery, dangerous driving and having no licence or insurance.

    The second man, aged 39, was arrested on suspicion of robbery on Friday and later charged.

  8. Enhanced Covid testing to start in Pleckpublished at 12:47 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2021

    Enhanced testing is set to begin in the Pleck area of Walsall after a case of the South Africa coronavirus variant was found in the area.

    It's the second case of the virus variant to be found in the town, but Walsall Council said they were not linked.

    The first was in the WS2 postcode area and the council said enhanced testing there has now been completed. They did not find any other confirmed cases of the variant.

    The local authority will be going door-to-door in the Pleck area to provide home-testing kits from today.

    Following the serious collision on the M42 northbound this morning, West Midlands Ambulance Service have said no-one was seriously hurt.

    A spokesperson said paramedics were called to the scene near Junction 2 for Alvechurch at about 06:05 GMT and found two patients.

    "We treated one man for injuries not believed to be serious and he was conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment," the spokesperson said. "A second man was assessed but did not require any treatment and was discharged at the scene.”

    Initially three lanes of traffic had to be closed following the crash - all have since reopened but congestion is still being reported with queues of up to five miles causing delays of about 25 minutes.

    No more community cases of the South African variant of coronavirus have been found in Birmingham, the council has said.

    Enhanced testing started in the Frankley Park and South Northfield areas two weeks ago after two cases were found.

    At the time, health officials said the cases were from a family living in neighbouring homes and were not linked to international travel.

    After carrying out enhanced testing at drive-through sites and mobile testing units, Birmingham City Council has now confirmed no further cases of the variant has been found in the city.

    The Atherstone Ball game has had to be cancelled for the first time in its 821-year history, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

    "Myself and the committee are devastated," chairman Rob Bernard said. "Along with the spectators and the players.

    "But we're in the middle of a pandemic, there's not much more we can do."

    Shrove Tuesday normally sees shops in the Warwickshire town boarded up before the game of "football" where hundreds of men and boys compete for ownership of a heavy, leather ball in the street.

    "Hopefully this time next year it will all be over and we can get back on with our tradition," Mr Bernard said.
