    A Worcestershire road has been closed due to a collapsed wall.

    The wall came down on Lansdowne Crescent Lane today.

    Worcestershire County Council Highways said the road would remain closed while officers work to make it safe.

  2. Covid-19: At least 79 cases of India variant detectedpublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 24 May 2021

    At least 79 cases of the India variant have been detected in the West Midlands region over a week.

    The Public Health England statistics, analysed by the Wellcome Sanger Institute, cover the seven days up to 15 May.

    Twenty-three cases were in the Birmingham City Council area and more than 10 in each of Dudley, Coventry and Sandwell.

    However, by way of comparison, the data shows there were hundreds of cases in Bolton, Blackburn and Bedford over the same period - 611 in Bolton alone.

    Not all Covid-19 cases are tested for variants, so the numbers could well be higher.

    The latest studies have shown that both the Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines are highly effective against the India variant after two doses.

    West Midlands Police is appealing for help tracing a man who attempted to ram a police motorcycle during a pursuit.

    It happened in Oldbury on 5 May.

    The car, which the force said was later discovered to be on cloned plates and is suspected stolen, was pursued by the officer on a motorcycle, before the suspect "attempted to reverse ram the officer".

    The officer was not injured, but the car did make off from police.

    Anyone with information is urged to contact the force.

    Police have appealed for witnesses after a woman was sexually assaulted by a group of men in Kidderminster.

    The woman was attacked while walking in the Broom Crescent and Dovedale Avenue area of the town at about 18:30 on bank holiday Monday, 3 May, police said.

    "We would especially to like to identify a family that the victim spoke to at their home in the same area following the incident who offered her support," a West Mercia Police spokesperson said.

    Anyone with information was urged to contact the force on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously.

    A large fire at a cardboard and paper recycling centre in Birmingham was started accidentally, the fire service said.

    Most of a single-storey building storing the waste was damaged in the blaze on Saturday at the site on Redfern Road, Tyseley.

    West Midlands Fire Service said about 60 firefighters were needed to tackle the fire and it took until Sunday afternoon before they were sure it was completely out.

    The blaze sent a large plume of black smoke into the air and people living nearby were told to keep their windows closed.

    A loaded firearm has been recovered from a car stopped by officers in Birmingham.

    The vehicle was stopped on Slade Road on Saturday after it had previously failed to stop for police.

    The pistol was discovered on the back seat, and a teenager in the car was also found to be in possession of a knife, said West Midlands Police.

    Two men aged 24 and a 17-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm.

    More surge vaccination centres are to open in Nuneaton after cases of the Indian Covid variant were found in the town.

    Testing has been increased in the Wembrook and Abbey wards with hundreds of tests handed out to people on their doorsteps.

    Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council said, external nine cases of the variant were discovered in the town earlier this month.

    Two temporary test sites have been set up at Bermuda Park and Attleborough Fields Industrial Centre.
